Not sure how many of you listen to this podcast but as a fan of Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone I do. Only mention it here as a recent episode was an interview with Jason and Sunni Brock, during a discussion on bloated horror novels was the memorable quote "we need more Ramsey Campbells and less King and Koontz", here, here.
You can listen here :-

The most interesting bit is around 32minutes in.

Fantastic, Colin. I've been a rabid TZ fan since childhood, and Ramsey thrown in for measure is a definite plus. Cheers.

Some really interesting stuff in that podcast Frank, never knew how much Ray Bradbury disliked Rod Serling. Shame as they are both heroes of mine.

Colin - as an author I love Bradbury, but the more I hear from other people about him as a person, the more I fear he may very well be (as pointed out to me here on RCMB) the unnamed famous author Stephen King mentions having met many years back and discovering he was not a very nice gentleman. Mind you it could all be hearsay.

But Rod Serling along with Ramsey and King were the people whose work I immersed myself in and to whom I still get excited reading or viewing to this day.I actually passed my O'level speaking exam on Rod Serling. I used to collect the TZ magazine, which used to have some great fiction in there. I remember Marc Scott Zicree's TZ companion which cost me weeks of paper round money to buy, only for some bastard at school to nick it out of my bag.I was so obsessed with TZ as a kid that I used to place a tape recorder near the TV and record the episode that way (this was before I got my own VHS recorder). I would then get up early for school before everybody else and listen to the episodes while having my breakfast.Even now I feel no shame admitting that. Only The Prisoner had the same effect on me when I was that age. So long ago. Great times.

It's that time of year again; the weather is perfect for spooky stuff. Lovely golden crispy autumn. Dry leaves sizzling across the ground. Smoke in the air.

Oh. Now I think I want to eat something fried.

I've been reading King's Danse Macabre again and am surprised to find he shares my view of TZ, that for the most part it's a tad smarmy and pontificating. In my memory it was a spooky sort of show, but in reality it has the tone of those big pictures with political analysis/wisdom over them on Facebook.
