I need a list of Christmas films for next year that aren't you're typical saccharine family friendly pukefests that usually clog up the airwaves... Any suggestions? I'll kick start the list with Die hard Gremlins Christmas evil (aka you'd better watch out) |

I've mentioned these before, but... The Lady In The Lake (1947) The Reckless Moment (1949) Black Christmas (1974 & 2006) |

Ramsey – I assume Weber means It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, that sort of thing. I'd recommend The Last Winter. Also that amazing Finnish film from a couple of years ago that managed to be Lovecraftian and lovable at the same time. Can I insert an opportunistic plug for the dark Yuletide e-book anthology Ain't No Sanity Clause, edited by Theresa Derwin? Things have learnt to type that ought to scrawl. |

Actually I do have a soft spot for It's a Wonderful Life - It manages to be emotional without being overly saccharine to go with it, and it's so well directed and acted that it's difficult to find a legitimate complaint about it. Also, remembering that the basic story is about a man on the brink of suicide, there's an inherent darkness that people tend to forget. I was thinking of any film with Santa as a lovable old Elf who solves everyone's problems by giving them material gifts, anything animated with Santa in, anything about cutesy snowmen or animals at Christmas, etc |

Was the finnish film Rare Exports? I meant to tape that the other night but forgot. |

"... typical saccharine family friendly pukefests that usually clog up the airwaves..." LOVE, ACTUALLY. I can't watch IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE without thinking, "Life's shit, mate. Get over it." Sorry. |

Nightmare Before Christmas is brilliant - I love the songs, especially "What's This?" (presuming that's the title). |
