If you’ve felt strange eyes studying you from the shadows, it has seen you…

If crooked branches have rapped upon your window at night, it has summoned you…

If your dreams are plagued by half-glimpsed terrors, it has claimed you…

I am extremely proud to announce that my latest full-length horror collection, The Darkly Splendid Realm, will be published by Dark Regions Press: http://www.darkregions.com/.

Featuring 13 new nightmarish tales (almost all of which are exclusive to this book), an Introduction by none other than award-winning author Laird Barron, and cover art by legendary artist Harry O. Morris, The Darkly Splendid Realm will initially be offered in two distinct versions:

-100 signed and numbered limited edition hardcovers with dust jackets

-13 Deluxe Editions. These will be leather bound, signed, and will feature a slipcase and other bibliophilic delights.

The book is currently slated for a late-2009 release. Pre-order information shall be announced in the very near future.

Thank you all for your interest. What a year 2009 is turning out to be for RCMB members! We'll all be broke by December, but very, very happy.

My, it's been an incredibly strong year for supernatural fiction, hasn't it?

It certainly has, Simon. I was out for a walk this evening pondering just how much astonishing horror fiction has either been published in '09, or is due before the year's out. The folks on Ramsey's board (including the landlord himself, of course!) alone have enriched the genre by leaps and bounds over the last little while. This is an astounding time and I'm proud to be a part of it.

My sincere thanks to you, the good Mr. Bestwick, Zed, and Steve. I truly hope that The Darkly Splendid Realm makes something of a mark. As long as readers dig it, and just a few minds are blown, I'll be very content indeed.

Oh, and bonus points for picking out the Bauhaus reference. Step aside, folks, the lady just won herself a Kewpie doll.

Excellent news Richard, and some quite marvellous titles in that ToC! This is yet another volume that will added to the library in the extra turret I'm having built onto Probert Towers to house the extra books (the dungeon bit underneath is apparently free, although I'm sure I can find some good use for it as I walk the corridors, my ebony candelbrum held before me to illuminate my fine garments of charcoal grey and gold).

No idea what I'm on tonight. What the hell IS a 'kewpie' doll anyway? Is it like an Action Man?

Thanks so much, John. If Probert Towers is anything even remotely like what you've described, I'll gladly donate a copy of The Darkly Splendid Realm in exchange for a glass of Amontillado and some ennui-ridden conversation with the Master of the House.

Kewpie dolls were very cheap and very strange cartoon-like plastic dolls of babies or children. For some reason they were staple prizes that could be won at fairs and carnivals in the U.S. and Canada if one were able enough to beat the rigged shooting ranges, ring-tosses, etc.

Thank you very much, Joel. If you do read the book, I truly hope you enjoy it. Which reminds me: I'm very much looking forward to reading The Witnesses Are Gone.

I fully agree about Harry's work. I've been lucky enough to have two covers done by him and each time he's sent me the "rough" versions, I've felt my jaw hit the floor. I think covers are very important; not quite as crucial as the words between them, but important nonetheless!

Thanks, Zed. One might even say it looks like a darkly splendid volume...(Sorry, I couldn't resist the bad EC Comics-style pun.)

Fingers-crossed that the book does well. I think you'll like it, Zed. It's a pretty wide cross-section of horror, from the ghostly to the outright ghastly.

If you order 2 books then you get a free book - some of which seem fun enough.
Hence, order Gavin & Rainey!

Zed: well, ok, I also noticed a quality variation in Rainey's prose but when he's good, he can be amazing. And this is a kind of best-of collection, so I feel rather ok about it. I remember that I liked Fugue Devil quite a bit, for example. I read this in a Wildside Press collection - forgot the title.
