Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, and Rachel Weisz star in a film whose ending is possibly easy to guess, and despite the big reveal part way through, might promise a few genuine scares. If you look closely though you will probably spot the 'real' bad guy on account of him appearing in long shot and being a well-known character actor. I've probably just put you off the whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncLFpGdd8O8&feature=relmfu

I just read that the director tried to have his name removed from the film before it was released. *That* put me off the whole thing.

This from Wikipedia:

Director Jim Sheridan clashed with Morgan Creek’s Jim Robinson constantly on the set over the shape of the script and production of the film.[4] Jim Sheridan then tried to take his name off the film after being unhappy with the film and his relationship with Morgan Creek Productions[5].

Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and director Jim Sheridan (who had the film taken away from him by Morgan Creek Productions to implement their own cuts as well as changes) disliked the final cut of the film so much that they refused to do press promotion or interviews for it.[6] This forced Morgan Creek to resort to using on the set footage and taking bits and pieces of other interviews from press junkets that mention Dream House to give to the press.[7] The trailer cut by Morgan Creek Productions has come under fire for revealing the main plot twist of the film.[6]
[edit] Reception

The film was not screened in advance for critics. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 5% of 38 critics have given the film a positive review, with a rating average of 3.8 out of 10. The consensus states: "Dream House is punishingly slow, stuffy and way too obvious to be scary."[8] Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, gives the film a score of 42 based on 8 reviews.[9]

I still fancy it despite all that, though the official trailer couldn't give more spoilers away if it tried.

On this day, exactly ten years ago....

Do I even remember DREAM HOUSE? Nope. Is it remember-worthy?

I saw it! I thought it was ok, pretty passable. But it happens with films with good credentials, that they are less forgiven than others.
We just watched Halloween 3. Very good, but not as great as its fans suggest. We are actually on a Halloween series binge and so far the one I've enjoyed most has been 2 - it's just the most fun, in many ways most polished of the first three we've watched. I don't know why higher art leaves me a little cold - maybe because there's a looseness, an unselfconsciousness about "lesser" films. Who knows.

Not too lesser - Halloween 4 is awful. Feels older than the first three, even though the flavour of it makes me nostalgic for a specific narrow period of time when such films were still showed on television.
As an aside, Michael M now looks more like Data than Shatner. "Logical," my son says.
