"The sinister clown that has been appearing on Northampton's streets made another visitation last night.

He was pictured in his trademark white make-up and red wig on St Michael's Road waving forlornly with a clown teddy hanging from his other hand."

It sounds like an urban myth, but there are plenty of pictures of the guy.

I think the scariest thing is the load of threats the poor clown seems to be attracting on his Facebook page.

I wish there was a clown like that around here.

Funnily enough it's an idea that's occurred to me before. I was walking home from a night out at three or four in the morning, through a completely dead residential area and I had this sudden random thought - how terrifying would it be if I glanced round a corner or up a street and saw a silent procession of clowns passing by.

Then I thought - how much fun would it be to dress as a clown and wander around residential areas at four in the morning creeping out the odd insomniac or late night reveler? I'm far too lazy to actually go through with something like that though.

I would have preferred it if he'd not engaged with anyone and just vanished after a while. It would have been spookier. I expect it's only a matter of time until he's outed.

Looks like the first of the second-rate copycats has turned up:

"Carrickfergus 'killer clown' turns himself in

A clown has turned himself in to the police after alarm was raised among frightened parents in County Antrim."

Weird synchronicity alert!! I just learned that my place on a ghost hunting mission to a notoriously haunted 500 year old inn in Carrickfergus has been confirmed for next month!

I'm bringing a lady friend but she's very much the Mulder in this one while I'm the Scully.
