Can anyone recommend a good site where I can watch good short indie horror films for nowt? I've tried YouTube but most are utter shit. Is there anywhere which has a bit of editorial control? Thanks. |

I'd be interested too, if anyone knows of such a site. |

You might have some joy with the ScareMe group on Vimeo, although I can't vouch for the quality. http://vimeo.com/groups/scareme/videos/2204683 Here's one from a few years ago which I thought was a bit of a standout (not the horrific one I posted the other day on another thread...): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xtzl2_the-french-doors_shortfilms |

I got linked to this short horror film today, I thought some people here might appreciate the 70's aesthetic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKQpG7EjXsg It's called Tea Time. "On a quiet afternoon an elderly woman prepares some afternoon tea for her and her husband. This short film was made on a single super-8 cartridge, edited in camera, shot in sequence with only one take per shot." |

Oh hey, we had a short horror film thread. I should have put that Out of Body one on here. Anyway, I just found this, it seems to be a series with the first one as a standalone short and further ones building the mythology, Slenderman style. It's found-footage, and really well done, though I'm not too sure I like the ending. A bunch of teenagers go on an increasingly disturbing night drive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08rj_ioKNSo |

I'm surprised we haven't seen that ending in a feature length found footage thing yet. I'd seen that before but it is very good. |

I watched the other parts of No Through Road yesterday. While the acting wasn't as good they took it in a direction that makes the end of the original a fair bit more interesting. |

http://vimeo.com/8268959#at=0 Monsters, a 12 minute film from the director of The Cat With Hands. Sweary words, nudity and violence, so not safe for work. |

http://youtu.be/gryenlQKTbE Cargo. A father goes to desperate lengths to protect his child during a zombie apocalypse. 7 minutes and smarter than most full-length zombie features by far. |

Fist of Jesus Jesus and Judas start, then fight, a plague of zombies. Genuinely one of the funniest (and goriest) short films I've ever seen, it's a teaser to get funding for a full-length feature called Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem. http://youtu.be/GuKV2Z3eYTY |

http://boingboing.net/2013/11/06/stop-motion-meat-puppets.html Stop motions meat puppets. It only last two minutes, but it's full of creepy weirdness. Which, funnily enough, is also my least successful chat-up line. |

Stop motion meat puppets are nothing new, David. Watch Jan Svankmajer and shudder! 'Lunacy' and 'Meat Love' are particularly disturbing... |

Yeah, I thought there was a Svankmajer influence there I was actually having a Facebook debate with a friend last night over this, I thought Svankmajer's work was more disturbing, he said it more playful and less grotesque and found this one far more unsettling. |

It's the black humour in Svankmajer's films that makes them all the more disturbing, David. In that respect he shares many qualities with Ramsey Campbell, imo. It's easy to be grotesque but to be original and funny with it is the mark of true genius. After all... the horror genre is and always has been intrinsically ridiculous! And that's why I love it so. |

I just got linked to this, it's a 20 minute Spanish short starring Macarena Gomez from Dagon called Merry Little Christmas. I should warn you, though, it revolves around domestic abuse and is extremely graphic. http://youtu.be/9jyRnZGmI5w |

I thought the final scare could have been done more effectively but the build-up was very good. |

There's just been a new Walking Dead videogame announced. The reason I'm posting that here is that the first 2 minutes of the announcement trailer make for a brutally effective minimalist zombie short. http://youtu.be/mn9cp_IMXhI |

The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow. I think this is extraordinary. The director has done nothing less than find a new way of telling a story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzw8qdXCep8 And... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpURRW80LnM |
