Apologies for this, but seeing as there's a charitable element, I hoped people wouldn't mind if I posted about it:

A date for your diary : on August 3rd, between 6pm and 8pm, I'll be doing a reading/Q&A at Morecambe's Cancer Research shop. 2 stories, free entry (although donations very gratefully received!), refreshments, the possibility of buying cool books and clothes from the shop and a chance to purchase specially produced, signed chapbooks, all for a good cause! What more could you want? Hope to see you a few of you there!

More power to you, Simon! Funnily enough, I just recently suggested to the folk at the local hospice second-hand bookshop (who had asked me for support, since I'm often in there and seldom leave without buying a book) that I should do something similar.

Remember that event at Ottakers in Huddersfield, Ramsey, when all the lovely old dears turned up? Steve Gallagher's superb ghost story made them gasp collectively.

I can imagine you guys reading to a bunch of pensioners like those from League of Gentlemen: "Got any bags?!"

There are trains, Gary, if you don't trust your car! Come to Morecambe, it's lovely! :-)

Cheers one and all - I'll post more details as I get them, but so far I'm thinking that reading A Different Morecambe might be sensible, along with (possibly) Scale Hall. I haven't decided which stories to produce as chapbooks, although Marley's Haunting is likely to one of them...

A train from Whitby? Now that's funny. The only one that runs takes you north or south, never inland!

Won't be there (unless someone's giving away plane tickets to England), but good luck Skunsworth and don't feel ashamed. If you think you're being shameless in terms of promotion, wait 'til you get a load of me.

Ramsey, I meant to ask -which hospice shop? I spent time working in Liverpool and got quite conversant with a number of the charity shops!

Oooo. This sounds nice. The date's very close to my birthday. I wonder if I could persuade my hubby to take me for a trip to Morecambe. I've never actually been there!

But good luck with it anyway, Simon. That's a great idea doing such an event in a charity shop. Ramsey - if you do one at a charity shop, I'll do my best to get there too.

Gary - that's the 2nd time since I've been on this board that you've mentioned the "old dears" at the reading in Huddersfield a few years ago. I must remind you (again) that I was one of those old dears! I must say Steve Gallagher's reading of "The Box" at that event is probably the most chilling live reading I've ever heard - followed closely by Ramsey's reading of "Peep" at an AltFiction a few years back too (gave me nightmares in a strange hotel room that night, that one did )

Just to let people know that this has been rearranged, and moved to a date in October so the August date has been cancellede (due to unforeseen circumstances, namely that there weren't enough shop volunteers available!). We're still going ahead, hopefully linking it in to Halloween...

...would love to see some of you there!

Hi All

The date of this event is now:

Thursday 28th October, 6pm - 8pm

WIll post more details nearer the time, but will let you know know that possibly the last available copy of the paperback edition of Lost Places will be raffled with the proceeds going to the shop. The tickets for the raffles will be available prior to the event so that those of you who'd like to enter but can't attend on the day can still join in! Details as soon as they're finalised.

Be great if some of you coud make it!

Caroline (and anyone else that's interested!) - you can still enter the raffle. If you have paypal, send payment to the paypal address wendydippy@yahoo.co.uk (it's £1 for 5 tickets, so multiples of £1 please). If you don't have paypal, contact me direct and we'll sort out getting me a cheque and I'll buy the tickets on your behalf. We'll draw the raffle at the end of the reading.

If anyone's interested, I'll also be selling a chapbook of the story from Lost Places, The Pennine Tower Restaurant. This is a true story, which I've managed to expand by about 2500 words for this print run with some new info that people have sent me. Price of this is £3 (UK postage free, overseas I have to charge a bit), of which £1 goes to Cancer Research UK. Each chapbook will be signed and, if you want, personalised. Again, paypal payment or contact me direct and we'll sort something out. If you pay for stuff by paypal, please be clear in the payment message what you;re paying for!!

Cheers and now I'll stop the promotion stuff!!

Right, last post, I promise - the event raised £150 (almost) for Cancer Research UK, and was great fun, and I'll almost certianly be doing something next year...

Caroline, you didn't win the raffle I'm afraid - sorry! TO cheer you up, however, the chapbook is going in the post today. Mick, yours can't go in the post because I don't have your address - can you let me know it and I'll get yours in the post asap?

Very well done on the amount raised for charity.

Flippin' 'eck, Simon, that Pennine Tower Restaurant thing is spooky! It arrived through my letterbox on Saturday, so I popped it in my bag to take to the Halifax Ghost Story Festival, to read in the break. Couldn't have been a more appropriate place to read it. Scary stuff! Thanks, Simon.

I'll post on the appropriate thread tomorrow about the Halifax festival - just got back and too tired now (tired but happy, that is )
