Anyone who hasn't gotten round to buying the Alien films on Blu Ray yet have a great chance to right now - Asda has the set for ten pounds. It's not the swanky whistles-and-bells version and there aren't many extras outside both versions of each film, but for me that was enough so it might well be for others.
I have to say, tread carefully with blu ray; we got the 90s Mummy the other day (asda again - £3.50) and the quality is just 'ok'. A bit noisy-looking to be honest.

DVD will do for me. If I can watch the film at home in comfort I'm fine with that. Whistles and bells tend to make too much racket for my liking.

Tony, I know what you mean about the varying quality of blu-ray films. Some of them aren't really worth the upgrade from DVD, while others are spectacular and make you feel like you're noticing new things in the movie for the first time (The Thing, for example, looks glorious on blu-ray). I have the Alien set, but haven't watched it yet.

I check the reviews on this site if I'm not sure: http://www.blu-ray.com/

I have the box-set. Both ALIEN and ALIENS look fantastic, very good transfers indeed. I haven't watched the other two yet (and, in all honesty, will probably never watch RESURRECTION).

Watched them all now. The first two are the essential ones looking back, still.
And yet - Resurrection looked great on our projector - much transformed. I prefer it to number 3, even though 3 has a greater feeling of quality. It just has less going on for me, ideas-wise.
