Read GHOSTS KNOW this last few days. Was drawn into it immediately and had to force myself to slow down for fear of turning the pages too quickly. Enjoyed it enormously, though as ever I find myself wondering if I should be enjoying such charged and disturbing writings to the extent I enjoyed this. Anyway, that’s by the by, and a whole other thread. The book’s a pearl. Funny it should have come out when there was all that fuss about the self-confessed psychic medium Sally Morgan, who was accused on Irish radio of using fakery in her stage act. There’s nothing fake in Ramsey’s book, though. I found it an artless tale. The themes relating to hearing and seeing, in particular the seeing, resulted in perhaps the most horrific scene for my money in Ramsey’s recent books. The first person approach made everything closer and darker (for want of a better pun), much more personal. No one can do this like Ramsey. No one. The old lad’s still the best there is. Role on The Kind Folk.

*********SPOILER ALERT**********

I did wonder for a while if the identity of Kylie Goodchild’s killer should have been kept a mystery, but in the light of Graham’s revelations at the end of the book I think, on balance, it was as well to have it in there. It gave the stuff concerning Christine’s fate and what Graham thought he’d seen more resonance. I do wonder to what extent, if the murderer’s identity could have been left out, the ending would have been more ambiguous as a result of that. Any thoughts, folks?

I've just finished this but would have to wait for a little time to think about that, Mark - an excellent book as you say, though.

I can't wait to read it.

Is there a US release planned? I know UK releases typically have a delay over here-- but I'm wondering whether it's worth waiting for, or whether it's worth splurging on an overseas copy. I'm desperately trying not to read any plot details in this thread, haha. Thanks for sharing how great it is though

There's some stuff that lingers, that's for sure.

Not sure what the deal is with US publication. The PS semi-hardcover is a handsome production, though, and well worth getting.
