Just in case anyone didn't know, Ben Wheatley's latest film is premiering on Film Four this Friday. It's strangely getting a TV, cinema and DVD/Blu-ray release all at once.

I'm going to the cinema premiere in Belfast at the QFT tomorrow night with a Q&A session with the director and cast afterward.

That sounds good, from what I've heard of it I expect the first Q will be "what the hell was that all about?" :-)

I've heard it's a supernatural horror film set during the English Civil War and that's all I know about the plot. It was filmed in black and white and the cast includes two of my favourite comic actors, Reece Shearsmith and Julian Barratt, though, from what I hear, this is no comedy. Really looking forward to it.

Did anyone here see Wheatley's last film, 'Sightseers' (2012)? It somehow completely passed me by but I hear great things about it as well.

'Sightseers' was a black comedy horror romcom about a couple of caravaning serial killers, apparently.

All I know about A Field... is what you listed, and that it's meant to be very surreal and ambiguous, hence the comment. It's nice to see a director so willing to vary his output so dramatically, especially as I'd imagine the temptation at this point in his career would be to take less risks and build on his early hype.

I didn't have the option of recording it so stayed up on Friday night. Turned out to be a mistake -- I was too knackered to appreciate it. I've heard other people raving about it though.

I've got it recorded and will probably get round to it in the next day or two.

I've just posted my first coherent thoughts, after puzzling over the film all weekend, on the "Stevie Goes To The Movies" thread, Mick.

The first coherent thoughts you've ever had Stevie? Well done for admitting it. We've all always known though.

Been swimming in the sea all day and I'm the colour of a cooked lobster. Long may this weather last!

Thought this might be of interest to some:

http://sonicshocks.tumblr.com/post/77832447578/teeth-of-the-sea-to-release-a-fie ld-in-england

"Swiftly following the release of their successful third album MASTER, Teeth of the Sea are proud to present a limited Record Store Day LP release of their re-imagined score to Ben Wheatley’s metaphysical midnight movie A Field In England. This work sees London’s most adventurous and intrepid psychedelic adventurers allying motifs and psychic spectres from Jim Williams and Blanck Mass’ music and reinterpreting them to their own ends, arriving at a bold and richly atmospheric transmission that takes the rites and revelations of the original work into pastures new."

I see 'A Field In England' has already taken its place in the pantheon of "what the fuck was that?!" underground cult classics. I feel privileged to have been at the premiere. Any word on what Wheatley is up to next? He's certainly the most exciting and original new auteur on the block these days.

He's adapting Ballard's High Rise, with Tom Hiddleston set to star.

One of my favourite Ballard novels! If anyone can do that apocalyptic masterpiece justice he can. Fingers crossed.

No, not six years. Such a rapid passage of time must surely be illegal.
I liked Kill List but find Wheatley a bit sloppy.
