Well done to the woman who is appealing against this sentence - a very brave lady indeed. The funny thing is, I remember when I first started working (in a solicitors' office) many years ago, being hauled up in front of the senior partner and told off for wearing trousers to work (smart ones mind, not jeans like I usually wear!  ). So even in the distant past here there was some level of prejudice/discrimination like this. But of course I didn't get flogged in public! Is it in Afghanistan where they're trying to get a law through which would basically legalise rape within marriage? | ||

It wasn't that long ago that Rape within marriage was not legally possible in this country. If it was your own wife she was your property and sex was an obligation of hers. Rape wasn't possible and the worst you could be charged with was battering her. I think it's only in the late 70's early 80's that that changed. | ||
