OK, OK, so it's me recommending this, but I do think it's a class act:

THE STREET by Jimmy McGovern. Monday, BBC1, 9pm.

Genius.

(Ah, hold on, perhaps I should have added an irony emoticon to that thread header . . . )

Gary, I remember Lucius Shepard recommending The Street a few weeks ago, and I've been wanting to see it ever since. McGovern's stuff is always worth watching, I've found.

I've seen every episode of this from the previous series, and there isn't a bad one. I think it's a fantastic drama series.
McGovern's writing is compelling. Very solid indeed.

The superb Post Office episode in the last series, Steve, was written by Alice Nutter of pop fame.

The one about domestic violence in series one, and the one about drug dealing, were devastating telly.

Alice Nutter - wasn't she in The Lancashire Witches?

I loved the David Thewlis episode (the one where he replaced his dead twin). Amazing how they pulled off such a far-fetched story in a believable manner.

Ally, Alice Nutter is/was in Chumbawamba.

Aah, I googled it, and now I see. I thought The Pendle Witches was another band...

Did anyone see FREEFALL, the Beeb's one-off credit crunch drama? I thought it was well-acted and shot very nicely but the story was pretty naff.
