I posted a new article over at the Vintage Horror site. This one is about A. Merritt. I loved his short story "The People of the Pit" and found his writing over all very enjoyable. He seems to be forgotten by many these days. I'm curious what the general thought of him might be here?

'The Moon Pool' is a classic novella. Terrific weird pulp writer and card-carrying Old Rogue (he allegedly offered to relieve C.L. Moore of the burden of her virginity).

I have to admit I never heard of C.L. Moore before. I looked up some info on her after reading your post and was happy to see she was originaly from my home state. Thanks for the extra insight.

Matt, read 'Shambleau' and 'Scarlet Dream' and 'Black God's Kiss'. C.L. Moore is awesome.

There's a nice Fantasy Masterworks paperback of C L Moore's stories - Black Gods & Scarlet Dreams - that's still in print and well worth getting.

I have only just acquired some Abraham Merritt - paperbacks of both Seven Footprints to Satan & Burn Witch Burn were in my local charity shop, and once I have finished The Other Passenger by John Keir Cross they will be my next 'carry about' books.

Re Moore: don't forget "Vintage Season". For some reason that one has always stuck with me.

I will definitely be on the lookout for her, now that I'm aware of her work. Thanks for the suggestions.

John, I'll be interested to see what you make of THE OTHER PASSENGER. I'll spare you any comment for now except: Cross is like a lover who leaves you with bruises in places you didn't know he was anywhere near.
