The internet has its detractors, but recently it's allowed me to order copies of films I've been wanting to see for absolutely ages but could never get hold of. COMBAT SHOCK - I've wanted to see this cinematic scream since I first read about it in Chas Balun's "Deep Red" zine back in the late 80s. Even now, it's a very gruelling experience, and a strangely moving one. A landmark in modern extreme cinema. I also have the Coffin Joe Box Set waiting for me. I've been aching to see these crazy films since I was 14, and read about them in those lovely hardback horror film books by Dennis Gifford. I expect only the esteemed JLP to understand my utter glee relating to these DVDs... |

Yeah, seen all them. They're good. Have you seen Chas Balun in the fine film THE FEIGNING GURU - quite a compelling performance, I thought. |

I understand too Gary - I've been waiting for the Coffin Joe boxed set to be released in the UK for years. Combat Shock I caught at a film festival in the early 90's... I picked this up on DVD in the late 90's from Troma in the US. I do feel the need to update it with the new director's cut under its original title of American Nightmare. Two other films followed (No Way Home & The Unscarred). Buddy G has also written a couple of books, Life is Hot in Cracktown, Poetry and Purgatory & Potsdamer Platz. |

Martin, Richard Stanley speaks about COMBAT SHOCK/AMERICAN NIGHTMARES on the DVD extras that form part of the new disc. There are also some Buddy G short films on there. Well worth a purchase, IMHO. |

Must check this film out. The Richard Stanley commentary sounds like an added bonus- he's a very underrated director himself. DUST DEVIL was a masterpiece. |

Poor Gary F - everyone ignores him... I've seen that one, Gary - it's one of Balun's best, I feel, on a par with Trevor Wellington's THREE ZOMBIES WEST. |

They're just jealous. Saw Haunting in Connecticut last night. Was fun watching out for the Ramsey refs, and the film was OK - creepy in parts, but a tad overdone, and the direction was giddy as hell. |

Weber, you'd better buy it or Coffin Joe will come tonight to possess your corpse... Zed, as you probably guessed, Lord P and I are both fans of the good Brazilian. I bought the region 1 coffin-shaped box set when it came out a while back, and I'm glad I did, as it was discontinued soon after. There's a new Coffin Joe film out: Embodiment of Evil - anyone seen this? I can't remember whether John said he had or not. |
