I'm probably one of the few people here who hasn't seen this film. It's been intriguing me for years, but I haven't been able to track down a copy. Is it really worth the effort? Is it that good a horror film? Is it really a superior precursor to 'The Blair Witch Project'. With regards to BWP, I still maintain that it's final five minutes, especially the closing shot, is one of the most effective and chilling in modern horror cinema. In fact I would go so far as to say its impact was as startling and revelatory as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. |

I definitely prefer The Last Broadcast, Frank. I've only got a copy of it on video - taped from the telly when it was on a while back. I don't know if it's been released on DVD? I do believe someone put a link somewhere here (when I mentioned it before) to an extract from it on YouTube? Worth searching for it there, I reckon. |

I thought The Last Broadcast was interesting, but not a patch on The Blair Witch Project (one of my favourite modern horror films - it simply terrified me). The low budget in the former opened up huge flaws, whilst I thought the latter used this to an advantage. |

Thanks chaps. So, two different view points. Caroline, why do you prefer it to the BWP? Zed has answered this question, so I'll refrain from asking him? |

Er, well .. um .. possibly because I didn't notice the flaws! I'm hopeless when it comes to making comments about why I prefer one thing to another (possibly why I'm no good at doing reviews!) - I just preferred it. I saw it after BWP, and whilst I did think BWP was superb (for a modern film), TLB just seemed better to me. Sorry I can't be any more specific - just personal preference I guess? |

Caroline - no problem in that. As Taratino said, 'all that movie fans have, what they really have, isn't the video/dvd, nor the film poster, but their opinion'...I'm paraphrasing from memory. |

I've seen both films and was underwhelmed by both I'm afraid to say. 'The Blair Witch Project' is the most overrated horror film of recent years imo while 'The Last Broadcast' isn't much better. If forced to pick between them TLB slightly has the edge. I always find the acting painfully amateurish and obviously fake in those films that try to scare by appearing to be real events. Saw TBWP in the cinema at the height of all the hype and sat thinking "this is badly done rubbish" throughout. TLB at least has a slightly better "story". Sorry folks who love these films... |

I actually never went to the cinema to see BWP. I was caught out by own snobbery, thinking that if so many people were going to watch it, and if mainstream TV and press were talking about it, then it was all hype. Admittedly the net campaign played a big part in its success, but I really think it was a great horror film. |

Shame as I'm very partial to sherbet dip. My email is swalsh123@hotmail.com and I'm on Facebook under the Northern Ireland network - living in wet and windy Belfast as I do (or the Shaft as we call it). As for Eamon Holmes starring in a horror film I think the world already has enough horrors to contend with!! |

Stephen - yes, the thought of Eamon Holmes in a horror film is certainly pushing the envelope. Then again, wasn't Davina McCall eaten by a zombie in Dead Set??? Food for thought, quite literally. BTW - are you also a writer? Is there anybody on here who isn't? Probably the sane ones I would think. |

>>Is there anybody on here who isn't? Probably the sane ones I would think.<< I'm neither, Frank - neither a writer nor sane. Well, I dabble a bit - with flash fiction, interviews and articles - but I've never been paid for any writing. One day, maybe ... * dreams * |

Frank - on one thread you've been chatting up Steve Jensen, here you're chatting up Stephen Walsh. Do you have a thing about men called Stephen? And does your girlfriend know about this?

Caroline - I've thing for Steve's. Does my girlfriend know...of course, in the morning I call her Stephen, in the afternoon Steve and at night Stephanie...you get the picture. Steve B - it'll take more than a piece of paper to keep me away. Go and check the back door, quick before I change my mind. Caroline - if you do flash fiction and articles I'm afraid that counts you in as part of the out patient program. |
