Craig - notice the first episode's director is none other than that bastard who pipped you to the post when NICKLEODEON had to reject your script...I won't watch that one out of solidarity. Then again, I probably won't watch any of them since I now have the entire series of Masters of Horror 1 & 2, and only a handful were standout.

Ooh, look at all those fresh premises! It's like a brand new trading estate in Milton Keynes up there!

Prof - perhaps with some of the more respectable directors like Anderson, Dahl and Larry Fessenden, some of the stories may be worth watching? Maybe?

Why is there always some woman taking her clothes off in every Mick Garris story?

Frank now awaits the multiple puns and comedic answers.

Yeah, Frank, that was an MTV Films decision - they're gone now, and it's probably Paramount (?) I assume that's doing THE CRAZIES, or some prodco under them - I actually wasn't aware that it was being done....

(I had a small prodco approach us [me and my cowriter] on FRIENDLY, our script - they said, in essence: we love it, but change the whole thing around, and then we'll try and get financing. Um, no. That's Hollywood. Still looking for a home for this... anyone out there want to buy a stellar horror screenplay?...)

I liked JENIFER from the original MoH series, though I admittedly watched only a few of them. The guy that had directed AUDITION I think?... didn't he do one?... if it's the one I saw, it was pretty good too, just for being so utterly odd....

Craig, what's 'Friendly about?' Pitch it to me.

Dario Argento's 'Jennifer'? I've not watched it yet. It's the only one.

Craig, Takashi Miike (AUDITION) directed a film called IMPRINT for MoH's first season, but due to controversial subject matter (incest and abortion, as I recall) it was rejected by Showtime and never aired. You can find it on DVD, though.

Oddly enough, JENIFER was the only MoH episode I really liked, too. (I didn't see them all, however.)

A bunch of college kids are stranded in a small desert town, mostly abandoned, named FRIENDLY. They stumble across a bizarre, hideous, primeval fungus that's been uprooted in a recent earthquake, and breathe in the spores it emanates. Becoming "infected" means you put off a pheremone, which triggers an evolutionary response in the innocents that "smell" it: it turns them into mindless homicidal maniacs, bent on murdering you - it's evolutionary, because the next stage of the "infection" is deadly to everyone around.... And so, the script is a reverse-zombie script: the HEROES are infected, and they're fighting off hapless, grandma-nice innocents who just happen to lose their minds and go apeshit as they try to kill them - so they've got to fight back and kill the innocents - it's partially a black comedy, did I mention?...

I really loved the 'Masters Of Horror' series and am overjoyed to see it resurrected!

Way more hits than misses imho and was great to see big name directors being given the time and money to make offbeat and original little horror films that wouldn't have seen the light of day as cinema releases. Argento's 'Jenifer' is my pick of the bunch too but by no means the only notable episode.

More misses than hits for me, I'm afraid. But IMPRINT was worth having the whole series for - brilliant. Carpenter's CIGARETTE BURNS was also a winner.

Zed - I agree with you, mate. IMPRINT, plus Anderson's story (for me the real horror story of the bunch), and Cigarette Burns were superior to the rest. Unfortunately, Carpenter's second season episode set in an abortion clinic, started off great, then finished with a ludicrous and appalling finale. Awful.

There was a Clive Barker adaptation, and though I haven't read the story, it was generally piss poor. Interesting premise, fledgling writer shacks up with other fledgling writers in an old hotel, and discovers the ghost of a woman on the stairs. Admittedly, the very last scene is very Barkish.
