Chaps, as you may or may not have seen from one of the threads, Steve and I were tentatively discussing a meet-up of you like-minded souls sometime after Xmas day. Somewhere between the 29th of December and the 3rd of January. Place of origin yet to be decided. Is anyone interested? I'm home for Xmas for the only the second time in nine years, so I thought it would be fun.

Everybody's invited. Perhaps Ramsey may be interested? Could be fun.

Yep, I'd be interested if it's within easy travelling distance of Yorkshire. I can't travel too far nowadays because of my health issues.

Where is "home" (ie. place of origin/relatives' abode) for you, Frank?

Frank, you want to know where I LIVE?!!!

Seriously, I'm in West Yorkshire. I could manage anywhere within easy reach of the M1 or across the Pennines, say, Manchester way. Basically, most places in the North of England.

But, bear in mind that I'm old and decrepid, I'm on mind-altering drugs (prescribed, I hasten to add), I don't drink, and I'm VERY unsociable. So I'd probably only be able to pop in for a couple of hours, have an orange juice, dash to the toilet several times, and then come back home and go to bed! (and I'm not kidding either )

For those of you that attended the BFS AGM may recall that my day job involves advertising hotels etc... its here that I try to keep an eye out for new and improved locations for FantasyCon venues.

Yesterday I stumbled across The Pendle Inn, which is obviously too small for FCon, it does seem llke an ideal venue for a smaller gathering.

As anyone here ever been?

The Pendle Inn looks great. That's very, very easy for me to get to. That particular area is one we often venture into on day trips across the Pennines from Yorkshire. I also have a friend (the one who runs the Doctor Who Autograph Collectors' Club and runs the Doc Who conventions) who lives around that area, so I know it quite well. If we were meeting up there, I'd be well up for it. In fact, what a setting that would be for a ghost story telling ...

... however, there is one drawback that I could see - the time of year. If it's frosty/icy/snowy/foggy, then driving over the Pennines to that kind of location is a definite no-no.

Funnily enough, 'Tide Of Souls' is largely set near there. The Inn actually pops up in the novel.

Only problem is, it's a bit of a trek by public transport and the last bus back goes at about 6.00pm...}

Guys - lets first decide on a date and time. My suggestion is the 29th or the 2nd. I can't do two meetings as I have only from the 27th to the 5th. The 28th is a delayed Xmas family day, and the 2nd is my brother's birthday. Clearly New Year's Eve is already arranged for you chaps. Unless anybody wants to organise a New Year's bash somewhere.

Martin - that looks an excellent little place to get together.

SteveJ - mate, did you get my e-mail last night? And BTW I submitted False Pilgrim to Estronomicon.

That was Steve that posted that pic - not me! I was merely shocked to find that you are really a four-legged stallion.

I've no preference date-wise for the booze-up. The only things which would stop me are: health (or, rather, lack of it), bad weather, or grumpiness as I hate Christmas-time.

Shame we couldn't fit in with Fran and I can't get to the BFS open night in York on the 31st Oct but could do with a night out. How about middle of November or middle of January? I could find a B&B/pub or Martin could. I do know a old inn just outside Manchester....

I could come over to Manchester from Yorkshire. Who is local?
Simon Bestwick
Weber
Steve Walsh - fly in?
Caroline - how about getting the train over the Pennines and stay over night. I'll be staying over.
Steve Duffy - you live in North Wales - not far.
SimonKU - Lancaster - not far.
Martin and Helen - you in?
Mick/Debs/GCW/Soosie - up for a weekend in Manchester?
GARY F. Can you get over from Whitby? Gary M you live in Leeds?

Anyone else who can make it?

You've confused me now, Ally. Is Frank not able to arrange his planned meet-up now then?

I'm still OK for a Manchester meet-up, what ever time suits everyone else.

I've been chatting to Fran. He is here ....29th of December to 3rd of January. 29/30 is mid week (but if people can do that ...) 31 = New Year's Eve 1st is NY day. 2nd Fran can't make that. 3rd is the Sunday before people go back to work on Monday the 4th.

Mid Jan?

Or back over to Fran to sort something 29/30th? I can't make those dates but perhaps some could?

I'm always up for a pint.
Whenever it is, I'll be there if possible.

Yes, I'd hope to be able to fly in Ally as Manchester is only a short hop away but all depends on the date, expense (following on from the Christmas splurge) and how much notice I have to book the flight.

I'd really look forward to meeting all you lovely people!

I can't make it, but just a precaution to all of you who go, if Weber's there: black out your license plates.

It would be a bit of a logistical nightmare to arrange anyway!

Er, this thread has started up again? I'd assumed nothing had been arranged? Have I missed out? Am I confused?
