To talk about horror fiction for a moment, has anyone ever read W.H. Pugmire's Lovecraftion fiction?

I'm currently reading "The Fungal Stain & Other Dreams" and it's marvellous fun. The man's work has a very offbeat approach, punk sensibilities, and a wicked sense of glee. Highly recommended.

I haven't read anything by him yet, Gary, but I've been meaning to pick up one of his collections, as he comes across (online, at alt.horror-cthulhu) as a nice fellow and genuinely passionate about Lovecraft.

I think you'd like his work, Huw.

Yay - that means I have two more books on 'Godzilla' the TBR!

Tales of Love a Death & Sesqua Valley & Other Haunts... both form Delirium books.

I'm sure I've read some of his stories in the Robert Price Fedogan & Bremer anthos and they were pretty good

I like Willum but his narrow fixation on Lovecraft frustrates me. We all have the right to choose our own fields in which to play -- and he's been fairly successful there so who am I to judge? -- but nevertheless I'd like to see him on grass he planted himself.

He and I discussed this elsewhere and he's resolute. If it brings him joy and success, I suppose there's no sense in arguing. If it ain't broke and all that...

Well, I've just finished the collection and it's rather brilliant. Have you read much of his stiff, Simon? because I think he takes the basic tropes Lovecraft created and does a hell of a lot with them. There's a freshness and vitality, and sense of invention, to his work that a lot of the other Lovecraftian stuff I've read doesn't have. I can only think of Laird Baron as another example of a Lovecraftian writer who so resolutely stamps his own identity onto the sub genre.

I highly recommend this book.

Oh, I don't contest his brilliance. Rather, his insistence on setting up fences for himself. Nothing in my talks with Laird suggests he does this.

But, as I said: who am I to judge?

Ah, but fences are movable, are they not? Some boundaries exist only to be crossed.

Only if there's a desire to cross them, friend. Only if there's desire.

You weren't complaining about the size of my keys when you had your fat fingers on them last night. Hurmph!
