I'm not sure about this at all. Sad I should even bother thinking about it, to be honest.

I much prefer that logo!!

I was never fond of the new stretched out Title while that design is much closer to the original.
Sheesh, I really am a geek...

But who the hell is Matt Smith???

I think he'll be good.
Oh, it is better, this logo, just still a bit ropey. That previous one was so after-thoughty.

Yeah, looks good. Hopefully it bodes well for the major freshen up I think the series needs.

I've looked the actor up and he looks suitably enigmatic for the role. Getting good vibes about this series.

I missed the entire fourth series of the reboot but will get round to it on DVD. To be honest I was never overly taken on Tennant as the Doctor (shock, horror).

He did a good job but on the whole I preferred Christopher Eccleston - a bit more gravitas while Tennant tended to overdo the goofy humour I thought. Still cracking family entertainment though!

I was taking to a couple of Dr Wo insiders last week, and apparently the producers are a bit worried about Matt Smith...

Same here Steve, it's a bit like admitting you are a kiddy-fiddler to say you aren't that keen on Tennant eh?

"I was taking to a couple of Dr Wo insiders last week, and apparently the producers are a bit worried about Matt Smith..."

Aye, aye...Whats all this?

I'm not surprised the producers are worried as Tennant was so popular in the role.
But that's something 'Doctor Who' has always had to contend with and is without doubt its greatest strength. If things ain't working they have a ready-made get out clause - Regeneration.

The problem with the last couple of series wasn't Tennant, it was the writing. Tennant did very well with some fucking dreadful scripts. That's me being generous.

Check out how good he was in the Moffat scripted episodes though. Hopefully the new lead writer on board should really give the series the boot up the arse it needs.

RTD was responsible for at least 8 out of the 10 worst episodes of new Who. Moffat was responsible for 6 out of 10 of the best - not bad considering he only wrote 6 - and 4 of those are in my top 5.

It's not "series 5" though, is it? It's annoying the way it's implied that Dr Who started with Eccleston & Davies...

Couldn't agree more, Mick. You can't beat classic Who.

But I liked Tennant's Doctor, though I preferred the Eccleston stories. Let's hope that Matt Smith can create as good a Doctor as Tennnant did, whilst having some great scripts this time.

Meanwhile, I'll just hanker after Sylvester McCoy ...

The only things I really remember from the McCoy era Doctor (apart from Ace being one of the great assistants) are

The Daleks flying up the stairs after the doctor for the first time - so flying Daleks weren't invented for the Eccleston doctor as was feted at the time!!!

and

There was an episode set on an ice planet where the cliffhanger was the Doc walking down a corridor, he sees a huge cliff/drop type thing with a railing on it at the end of the corridor. He hangs his umbrella from the railing and climbs down it to finish the episode hanging off his umbrella with a thousand foot drop underneath him. there was no reason that I recall for him to do this and it was one of the stupidest endings ever.

PS. I hope the Slitheen never appear on Who again. I hate them.

I'm heartened to hear it's not just me who was dissatisfied with Davies scripts!!

No one can take it away from the man for single-handedly reviving the show BUT his brand of nudge-nudge, wink-wink innuendo-laden humour never rested easily with the spirit of 'Doctor Who' for me. Horror and thrills were always the foremost ingredient in the classic days and I would love to see a return to that - as well as a revival of the cliffhanger continuing stories with the running time cut back to half an hour. But then I am a purist...

Do you KNOW that there'll be a new TARDIS, Tony? I think there will because they're shooting it in HD for the first time, but the current set isn't designed to be seen in HD. Can't wait for a new (moodier?) TARDIS interior. I prefer the new logo, too.

It feels smug, doesn't it? Especially when they act morally superior to people from the past, and meet a statistically improbabale numbers of bisexuals (actually, that's more Torchwood, isn't it?). Stop the agenda - just tell good stories.

Speaking of new stuff, Romero's new zombie film (God, I love typing that) is called SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD.

One review calls it "an abattoir of extreme carnage".

"The mayhem includes heads responding explosively to the effects of fire extinguishers, flares and blades, besides the usual assault weapons. It's surprisingly good fun."

The Dread Central reviewer dislikes LAND and likes DIARY, like me gives SURVIVAL a good review, so I'm hopeful. For all its faults, I'm drawn back to DIARY again and again, surely the definition of a classic?

I can't believe Romero is making yet another zombie movie. I find this news very sad.

His original Dead Trilogy was the final word in the genre - with 'Shaun Of The Dead' the perfect spoof. There were decent but ultimately redundant remakes of the first two by Tom Savini & Zack Snyder which really should have been the final, final word imo.

But Romero's flogging of a dead horse (ha!) with the criminally disappointing 'Land Of The Dead' and perfunctory "reboot" 'Diary Of The Dead' had me shaking my head at the demise of a once great horror innovator. I mean this is the same man who directed the sublime 'Martin', 'The Crazies' and 'Season Of The Witch' for flip sake!!

Even another 'Creepshow' or 'Monkey Shines' would have been better than his SIXTH zombie movie!!!!

Sorry but I can't even begin to get enthused about this one...

I watched some of DIARY last night again and it gets better and better with each viewing. Beneath the veneer of crude social commentary it has deeper, subtler layers. I think it's easily as good as the first three.

Only saw 'Diary Of The Dead' for the first time a few weeks ago and while I sort of enjoyed it in a bit of mindless zombie-munching kind of way I also found the experience rather pointless and tired.

Zombies, like vampires and werewolves, really have been done to death on the big screen... sadly.
