As I have an afternoon to while away for once...Thought I would run through the tracks which will make up my new album 'A Parallelogram Of Suitcases' & make a coupla comments on them...

The new album is thematic like 'The Changes' (which dealt with growing up), 'Monsters From the Id' (which mostly dealt with grief). This time, the album deals mostly with the highs & lows of adult relationships....

Sunrise

..the start of a new day, two people waking up and facing the day to come. Very influenced by the jazzy guitar styles of John Martyn.

You're No More Jesus Than I

..Wrote this last year after some unpleasantness I encountered on the internet. this now seems very current again after Ally's recent upsets.I love my vocal on this one (I can sing-yay!).

Full Moon

A light hearted look at 'that time of month' from a mans' point of view...Great vocals from Carole Lea here and violins from Dorothea Hardaker.

Fly Away, Bird

With the long gap between my last album and this one, I often felt like I was forgotten. this song was prompted by a comment made a while back by someone who was doing quite well while I was going through a 'fallow' period.

Sent By Angels

Traditional gcw ballad for those who fear the scary stuff..:-) this is a true story about a popular girl from school who died very young. It was also inspired by the title 'First Of The Gang To Die' by Morrissey.

A Parallelogram Of Suitcases

The loved-and-loathed title track, blimey, what can I say? - I love it, and no, I aren't going to explain it!:-)

Happiness

..can be such a simple thing, the love of a partner, or a song to carry with you the whole day through. I wrote this in my head while out in a delivery van, I had no paper & pen to write it down so I had to keep singing it over n'over to remember it until I got back. Recorded that same night.(If only all of them were that simple!)

Moments

...Is a song about temptation, this is the full version of the song 'Piano Moments'. This version features Beth's lovely piano, and also Jasmine Philpotts' beautiful harmony vocals.

Two Faces

A Dylan-esque song, I was going for that 'Blonde On Blonde' sound here.

Still Water

Jazz! - Again, the John Martyn influence is in here, plus a little (clumsy) John Coltrane...This is a song about the difficulties found along the way in long term relationships.

Gentle Spirit

...A prayer to your god of choice before bedtime...

Sleep Tight

...And so to bed, and to face the trials & tribulations of another day.

'A Parallelogram Of Suitcases' will be released in January 2010.

Sounds excellent mate - I'd buy anything that has a track called "You're No More Jesus Than I" on it - good stuff!
I don't believe you ever come out with 'scary stuff' - new and different perhaps, though, which is all to the good.

Oh, and I do still like the title track - certainly no loathing from the Curtis camp, it's just that it had stiff (oo-er) competition from the others on the EP...

Perhaps you will dig its charms more in the context of the album ...:-)

Are there any sample tracks somewhere I could listen to?

Hi Michael!

I have been a bit lax in putting up any songs on t'internet lately...I have a Myspace account, but Myspace is so damn dead, I haven't bothered to update the page yet.

I am considering a simple website to promote the album when in comes out, and the album itself will be sold through a well known internet site, where there will be sample tracks.

Stay tuned...More info soon.

I'll pick up my EP tomo, GCW, listen this coming week.

I've been enjoying Duncan Sheik's Whisper House album this week. Nicely Octoberish and spooky. Looking forward to your stuff shortly.

PS - You sorted out Amazing Tunes?
