I have the Warner pb edition of "The Face that Must Die". I have the Headline pb edition of "The Influence". I know there are expanded, rewritten, original (or whatever) versions of those, and maybe other, Ramsey's books, often enriched with new material, Potter's illustrations for instance, to make them more seductive. I have a point with expanded text, however: I am left with the unpleasant idea of not having all I should have and not having read all I should have read, so I cannot be satisfied with my beloved copies of the novels. My literary love would have me to reach out and grab the more complete editions but here comes my ethical halt, albeit painful.
It is not a financial issue. I resent running after each new small press siren announcing new, expanded text so I may never rest pleased with the contents of my bookcase.
I am tempted indeed but I have unhappily to leave off when collection, to my heart, begins rhyming with obsession.

I know exactly what you mean!

I had the same problem to a worse degree with CDs of my favourite albums (released, re-released remastered, re-re-released re-remastered with bonus tracks, etc...) until I wised up and knocked it on the head.

Hi Stephen,
thank you for your sympathy...not simply empathy, which is more an intellectual understanding and not based on the similarity of experience which sympathy implies.
Of course, it goes under the rule of reciprocity.

Rest easy, Giancarlo. The Warner Face is the complete version - only the Star paperback (the true first edition) was cut. The Influence has never been expanded, and I've no plans to do so. I did rewrite The Doll Who Ate His Mother and The Nameless - one scene in each - after first publication.

Thank you, Ramsey!
I will sleep better for a few nights!
I have no problems with DOLLS. As to NAMELESS, I have the 1985 Tor paperback edition of the novel. The first (unrevised) edition should be the 1981 McMillan. Not to be harping on the subject, it's my bookworm complex speaking, but after a search on the net it seems the revised text can be found only in the 1985 Panther edition, so the 1985 Tor pb should be a mirror reprint of the 1981 McMillan.
Anyway, I won't certainly be crying over just one single modified scene!
