Just watching X Files with the kids; at one point a man gets pulled and strangled by a bus with his scarf trapped in the door. I said to Tris (my youngest) 'I thought the bus drove over his head?'
'No,' Tris says, 'That was Vault of Horror.'.
Sigh...

I was enjoying such violent revels at that age myself. I remember when they would show old Martial Arts movies on TV (hell, I remember when the would show old movies on TV period) and I'd tune in thinking, "Please God please God let it be a particularly bloody one...." One that sticks in my mind was, now that I reflect back on it, semi-comedic, must have been - there was a running joke about the chewing of "blood bugs" - anyone remember this one? I have memories of it being just awash in gore and death. I'd really like to see it again....

And yet sex scenes frightened me. Funny that.

My parents let me watch all the gruesome violent bloody horror films I wanted to but my dad would turn off the TV in disgust if a sex or nude scene came on. Is it any wonder Americans are so sexually neurotic?

I saw GHOST STORY at a young age and remember absolutely nothing about it except Craig Wasson's willy.
I thought my father was going to have a heart attack.

Maybe it's best that's all you remember about the Ghost Story movie: it was a dire film of a brilliant book.

I remember watching a movie with my Irish Catholic Mum and Gran when I was about 14 when these two characters started discussing masturbation in rather explicit terms.
I can't for the life of me remember the film's name or much else about it but it was one of the most UNCOMFORTABLE experiences of my life!!

Everyone tensed up and no one said a word. I'm breaking out in a cold sweat now just thinking about it.

I can fess to having those parents as well.

Though Stephen, that situation WOULD be embarrassing - masturbation is not ever a suitable topic for an audience of one's mom and grandmother, I don't think.

Though yesterday, I was caught masticating at the Thanksgiving Day table. They tried to stop me, but I ejaculated anyway: "I was just sampling the meat!"

Not the same parents as me Craig? Hey, you're not my long-lost brother are you?!

And your post reminds me, yesterday was Thanksgiving in the States wasn't it? So can I wish all American RCMBers a belated Happy Thanksgiving (although I feel a little sorry for the poor turkeys).

Mine didn't get to see Craig Wasson's willy.

But I did

And yes that's pretty much all I can remember from Ghost Story apart from Alice Krige's naked 'I will take nou places you have never been' speech.

Oh, and Phillipe Sarde's music is one of my favourite horror scores
