I've just got back from seeing this with my son, Charlie, who's almost 6. We both loved it. Charlie spent the last 20 minutes sitting on my lap and gripping my hand in wonder, his eyes wide and taking in every tiny detail on the screen.

He was very quiet afterwards, and on our way back to the car he stopped, looked up at me with moist eyes, and quietly said: "Daddy, I think I'm going to cry."

A beautiful film; a beautiful memory. Thank you Spike Jonze from the bottom of my heart.

Great interview with Jonze in Bristol's Venue magazine where he says he and screenwriter Dave Eggers considered it a positive boon that neither of them have kids because they had to go back to remembering how they were children to write the screenplay, so they felt there was never a risk they were going to end up talking down to kids.

This in the same magazine that names 'Let the Right One In' as one of its films of the year, second to 'Thirst' as best vampire movie. Anyone mentioning Twilight is asked to leave the room. Proud to be a subscriber, I am ;->

Oy! I quite liked the first Twilight. Second was awful though, really.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is still going round in my head. I really can't recommend this one highly enough - but it's probably even better if you're a dad and you watch it with your son.

My son is 38. I've just rung him up about going...
Seriously, more power to your elbow, Zed :-)

That's great, Des - I mean it when I say that this is a real father/son film.
