Last night I saw the Leeds leg of this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/dec/16/public-image-ltd-review

And very splendid it was, too! I agree with every word of that review.

Wow, I didn't know that PiL had reunited.

Just knowing that Johnny Lydon is still alive and sneering makes me happy.

Isn't he the one doing those really bad adverts for a brand of butter?

What, you don't know who John Lydon is? Good Good; the youth of today, etc, etc...

I knew Lydon had got PIL back together (or rather a new band) but didn't realise the gigs were upon us!

I have a lot respect for Rotten/Lydon whether it be Pistols or PIL..A fine lyricist & frontman.

I love the rush of 'Public Image' - great bass from Wobble.

He's the best front man I've ever seen - and I've seen a few good 'uns. A human dynamo, that's what he is.

Glad it was good.
A girl from work went and said it was a brilliant gig; long too, which took the sting out of the price of a ticket (which was too much for me to go).
Johnny's a legend. A very sharp and entertaining man.

(Those butter ads disappoint me though. Same as Iggy with his bleeding insurance.)

Not commenting on the PIL gig, as I'm still seething with jealousy.

Did you know that the insurance company that Iggy advertises probably wouldn't insure Iggy, as he's an entertainer? That little irony makes those adverts all the worse from my perspective...

Can you blame them for cashing in? I don't. Since when was punk about anything other than making a bit of money out of the system they laughed at, anyway? Have you not seen The Great Rock n Roll Swindle?

I remember feeling a bit disappointed in them though. To be honest, I preferred the Buzzcocks and the Damned and stuff; the bands around the periphery.
What am I saying!!! The only remotely punk albums I ever bought were Tubeway Army! I was never a punk!

Anyway - didn't Lydon once chop a rat in half with a pen knife?

Re the butter and insurance ads: as Lemmy once said- 'there ain't no pensions in rock and roll, baby.' They won't be able to tour forever.

Simon B is correct.

I don't give a flying fuck what people want to advertise as long as their music is good & true.

Simon...I got 'Tide Of Souls' for my Birthday!:-)

I've got a friend who went to one of the Birmingham gigs last week. Sadly, not long before he was due to go in to the gig he found out that his sister had died that morning. Not being able to leave until the next morning though he still went to the gig and found it immensely cathartic in some ways. P.I.L was always John Lydon's more personal music, the song Death Disco was written about the death of his mother, and John Lydon lost his father this year and talked about that on stage, so it was a pretty emotional gig all round. I wish i'd got tickets. P.I.L was by far the more interesting side of Lydon.

I can see how that would help. When my mother died and I'd spent all day in Manchester sorting out the funeral I went to the local arthouse cinema and lost myself in a film. Had to - really.
