Anyone seen this new film about John Lennon's teenage and early adult years? Far more than the 'biopic' described lukewarmly by some reviewers, this is a beautifully reconstructed and perceptive account of the early life of a major figure in popular music. The visual background, script and performances are all breathtakingly effective. This is by far the best film to feature Lennon as a character. The script captures Lennon's ability to be either poignant or hurtful depending on his state of mind: one line is the most eloquent insult I've ever heard. I'd be interested to know what Ramsey thought of its representation of Liverpool in the late 50s and early 60s. For me, it's one of the best films ever made about a musician (though it can't displace Round Midnight from the top of the heap). | ||

I'm looking forward to this - pretty much all I've read about it suggests it'll be very good. I was amused to note a comment on imdb - in Australia, the posters have a tagline that reads - "At 15 all John Lennon needed was love"! (cringe) | ||
