Any of my fellow Brit writers being inspired to write ultra-wintry stuff by these polar conditions?

Very fortunate in my case, as I've been working on a lengthy Christmas-themed project since mid-December. That was roughly when the first snow started to fall. We had a monumental snowfall on Christmas Eve itself, and that snow was still covering our garden until yesterday, when we had another incredible cascade. Well over a foot deep outside now, and it's still teeming down. The temperature hasn't risen above freezing since two weeks before Christmas, last night it was -6 and the night before that an amazing -11. Not particularly impressive to our Canadian and US pals, but pretty good for England, even up here in the bleak north.

I can't imagine it's too much fun for those who have to get in to work, of course, but as my office is in our spare bedroom I can afford to relax and take inspiration.

And now a belated apology, in case my relaxed tone is pissing anyone off who's marooned in the white-out.

We are all snowed in - up here, near the South Yorkshire moors, but my office is next to where the telly is on (daughter watching wildlife programmes) - so I'll probably just edit my novel today. The book is full of frost and snow already so I'll add a little more :>)

Just pissed off that I haven't any peace and quiet.

Here in the real world it's treacherous as hell driving to work. If this doesn't let up, I'm leaving the office at lunchtime and picking up the boy from school. No way am I risking our lives driving in heavy snow, in the dark, during rush hour.

Days like this I wish I didn't live 20 minutes walk from work. There's only 4 people on this floor of the office made it today. I'm just going to run the weekly reports and email my boss to get permission to go home -if everyone else is getting a free day's holiday I'm having one as well.

I live 5 mins walk from work, mate. But I have a 3-mile round trip before that to drop off the boy at Fun Club. Tok me almost an hour this morning, and I almost lost control of the car twice!

Hubby made it into work early this morning - but now he's not sure he'll be able to get back. I'm not leaving the house. Me and the cat are tucked up warm and snug inside, while the snow is still coming down outside.

I'm old enough to remember the winter of 62/63 (though I was only 5 at the time and it was all good fun for me at that age). I read something on the internet today which made it sound like we could have another similar winter - snow and sub-zero temperatures until March. Hell, I hope not. I might have to revert to earlier, more childlike behaviours and start building snowmen!

Ah, see, I knew I was older than you, Caroline, for all your talk! Mind you, it's a fair bet I'm less mature though, being a chap and all that.

It's not cold out, people. Didn't you get the message? The world is heating up - heating up - getting warmer - just keep telling yourself that everything is too hot, and you'll be fine.

There was a "Twilight Episode" like this, I seem to recall - hysterical delusions of a burning world as the world actually freezes - oh how deliciously analogous that seems to be, now....

I was sent home from work at 2pm. The office was dead - most people didn't make it in. The snow's quite bad here in South Yorkshire. Still, an afternoon of watching Jackson's King Kong with the kids beckons.

I recall that episode - a good'un too, although (even with every episode of The Twilight Zone on DVD) I'm unable to recall which one it was. Or was it The Outer Limits? Nope, pretty sure it was TZ.

Been out to push and help a few people up the road - except for the solicitor :>)Bastard left the handbrake off and dashed in to watch the cricket, last summer. Of course it ran away and backed into my tree. Insult to add to injury - he never apologised.

So - Stevie B how deep is your snow then?

"Midnight Sun", I think - an original TZ episode (possibly penned by Serling or Matheson? Off the top of my head).

Mick - you're not really older than me, surely? No-one is!

Well, hubby made it home from work - got sent home early. It looks like our local Council has actually done a good job with the roads - the only bit he struggled with was getting to the house from the main road (we don't usually see a gritter here till it's all over). Snow's stopped falling too - maybe it won't be as bad as 62/63.

It's not one of my favourite Serlings, Mick. It's a good story - but it goes on a bit, for want of a better phrase. The acting seems a bit OTT for my liking too - I didn't really take to the characters. But if you can see past that, it is worth a watch.
