I am about halfway through reading 'Under the Dome' by Stephen King - and enjoying it as I always enjoy King novels. It's mix of characters and viewpoints and political machinations under a giant inescapable microscope.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW?

The actual dome intrigues me. Its connection with Hallowe'en. It strikes me so far not so much as a dome but a cone. Shaped like a witch's hat?

Or, possibly, more relevantly, a CONE ZERO as templated by the gestalt of the multi-authored 'Cone Zero' anthology?

Or a phenomenon engendered by the Large Hadron Collider? Creating a Lord-of-the-Flies hothouse, a zoo of competing human animals, a Cern Zoo?

Perhaps I shall find out how wrong or right I am by the end of the book.

I just read the synopsis to King's UNDER THE DOME... why does it sound exactly like the plot of THE SIMPSONS MOVIE?...

I'll bet King wishes he had a dollar for every time someone's asked that...

There was also a novel in the early 1990s (I think) called ZOO EVENT that had a similar plot device.

I, too, got this for Christmas. Alongside the Laurel & Hardy DVD boxset, and Moon on DVD. My list to Santa was heavily influenced by the RCMB...

Yup, I got it off Santy, too.

Hey - Lynchy! Where you been, man? Good to have you back.
