At long last, they're releasing on DVD the TV miniseries which first got me into Stephen Gallagher's work:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chimera-DVD-John-Lynch/dp/B0037Q6IQY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8& s=dvd&qid=1266411196&sr=8-2

I'll be able to replace my battered old video of it.

Blimey!

I love Stephen Gallaghers' superb writing, but I don't remember Chimera being too successful, If I remember right, Chad was simply too unconvincing.

Oktober was better I think, that said, I am amazed no-one has made a TV series from the superb 'Nightmare, With Angel'.

I recall being quite disappointed with CHIMERA; as you say, GCW, the creature was very unconvincing. Shame - the book was loads better, although it's an age since I read it - before the series was on, that's for sure.

Funny you should say that about Chad being unconvincing. I know Steve says he was disappointed with that aspect of it too, but I always thought it was *most* convincing at the time.

I've watched it a few times since (on my battered old video) and I guess it has aged a lot when you think about the kind of special effects they can do nowadays, but it freaked me out no end when it was first shown. I prefer it to the TV Oktober to be honest.

I'm amazed Chimera has never made it onto DVD until now. I saw the TV version before reading the book - the book is excellent too of course, and quite different in its execution.

You're right, GCW, Nightmare With Angel would be excellent on screen.
