Just went to see this film this afternoon and I seriously recommend it. It's a hell of a good one- intelligent, mesmerising, occasionally funny and often moving. 'Thriller' doesn't do justice to it. There are fantastic performances all round, especially by Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander. I've read and loved the books, and this is a damn good adaptation- at least as good as 'Let The Right One In' was of the original novel. As with LTROI, my one criticism is that elements of the novel were lost from the film, though I suppose in the interests of length it was inevitable. Go see it before the inevitable dumbed-down godawful Hollywood remake. On the subject of shit remakes- there was a trailer for the remake of Nightmare Of Elm Street, produced, of course, by Satan- sorry, Michael ****ing Bay. On the plus side, there was a trailer for [REC]2, which could be... interesting. |

The Hollywood remake will be directed by David Fincher. |

Ah well, it could be worse then... probably still be dreadful. |

IMDB lists Fincher as attached to Dragon Tattoo as well as to the remake of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, to an Eliot Ness biopic, and to adaptations of A Lee Martinez's novel The Automatic Detective, and Charles Burns's graphic novel Black Hole, among five or six other projects. I loved Zodiac, and I think Fincher might be good for Tattoo, but it looks like the man has overextended himself a bit at the moment. I'd be surprised if he ends up directing Tattoo. |

Chris you are totally right and I wish he would have gone ahead and done Burns's remarkable graphic novel 'Black Hole' (Gaiman /Avery screenplay adap.), or another amazing graphic novel, 'Torso'. But apparently this will be his next project, which is casting soon etc...Ridley Scott has over 20 films in development I think, ranging from the Alien prequel to 'Child 44', and a film based on Monopoly (what!?)-sounds like an action existential thriller. |

We watched this last night, thanks to the good Lady P having read the book and put the DVD on our rental list. I thought it was absolutely splendid. I knew the books had been very successful but what I wasn't expecting from this movie was a series of brutal murders of young attractive women that extends far back into the past, obscure references linking the killings, fuzzy flashback memory sequences that may or may not be reliable, and a killer who comes across all ordinary until we find ourselves in their lair - yes ladies & gentlemen, the giallo is alive and well and being made in Sweden! Three cheers and sing hurrah! As the good Mr Bestwick says above - this one's definitely recommended. |

I had the same reaction as you, John - and your giallo reference is particularly incisive! |

This is funny: http://dragonwiththegirltattoo.blogspot.com/ Adam Roberts is actually a quite capable writer. |

Massive cash-in, though, isn't it? Shameless. |

Okay, now take the film of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO, and put it in the Totally-Opposite Machine. When it comes out totally opposite from good - i.e., stinky rotten goddamned garbage waste of time and characters wretched boring mess - you have the sequel film, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE. |

> Massive cash-in, though, isn't it? Shameless. Yes, perhaps. On the other hand Adam Roberts is not a hack. His "Yellow Blue Tibia" was quite a good novel actually. I expect this to be partly parody, yet I wouldn't be surprised if the story itself were satisfying. |
