Not really interested myself, but thought some of you might appreciate this: namely Zed and Lord Probert -http://video.uk.msn.com/watch/video/piranha-3d-trailer/2sfy81ym

Sad man that I am, I'm really looking forward to that. If it's even half as much fun as it looks it'll be a belter.

I'm a huge fan of the original.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't poor Richard Dreyfuss in this?

Oh no! Is this a 3D remake of the original? I remember seeing the original Piranha and laughing my head off at the dreadful special effects and hammy acting.

James Cameron wrote the original, didn't he? Wasn't it directed by Dante? I mean Joe Dante before anybody makes any funny remarks about inferno's and such.

I bloody love Gremlins. Almost on a par with The Howling.

Talking of werewolves, which I know I am the only one currently doing so now, which takes this thread a little further off course, I saw 'American Werewolf In Paris' recently. It defies belief, or I wish it did, that this film even made it into the cinema. Absolutely nothing redeeming to recommend it. And I mean nothing.

I know Cameron directed Piranha 2 - although he tries to leave that off his CV these days.

In my version I'd have the pathologist jumping out of the corpse and eating the piranha. Just saying, like.

John Sayles wrote Pirhana (and Alligator) and Dante diorected. Cameron directed Pirhana 2: Flying Killers (his first film; a jobbing director's role).

'American Werewolf In Paris' was directed by Anthony Waller - the British director behind the rather good "Mute Witness"

Of course, Sayles. How could I forget that. Great screenwriter and great director.

Never seen Mute Witness, and on the evidence of AWIP, I'm not sure I want to chance it. But I may give the chap another go.

Alligator and Brother From Another Planet were great B movies, better than most of their bigger budgeted counterparts, though thinking about it, BFAP is not really a B movie, but rather a B movie with a limited budget.

Just had a look, and now I know why I recall the title. I remember seeing a late night film show reviewing it. It got a great review as well. I just never got round to seeing it. Okay, so that's another movie/DVD added to the to be ordered list.

As ever I'm with Zed on this - a 3D remake of Piranha could be loads of fun, and I love the original (which is getting a whistles & bells Region 1 DVD re-release in August as well - hurrah!)

I remember the original Piranha coming out, which was just at the end of the "dangerous fish" trend in films, which started with Jaws obviously. I remember thinking at the time "that's rubbish!" and wasn't the bitter, cynical, wizened old bastard I am now. Re-making it, even with the sexy 3D, cannot possibly add any depth to what is already a shallow plot.

See what I did there? 3D? Depth? Shallow? Water? Nice, eh?

Why an "interviews and extras" DVD is being done is beyond me, though.

In some ways there's no possible way that this re-make could be any worse than the original, as there's nowhere to go but up.

Wasn't former dark lady Barbara Steele in the original "Piranha" movie as her latest appearance on the silver screen? Or was it Cronenberg's "Shivers" early movie?

I'll be interested to hear what you think Zed.

Btw - we saw Imago Mortis last night. It's very flawed but you'll need to see it because:

a) It's Italian
b) It does indeed look Spanish (as someone has alluded on another thread)
c) It was co-written by Richard Stanley

See?

Wasn't it poor Richard Stanley who got chucked off 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' remake with Brando and Kilmer? He actually snuck back on set dressed as one of the 'monster' extras.

Considering the final product, perhaps it was best he left it to Frankheimer to make a pig's ear of.

Hardware was also a great little movie.

Was it the Island of Dr Moreau where Brando was permanently naked from the waste down on set to ensure they only shot upper torso shots of him? he didn't want to be seen full height on screen.

I have a horrible feeling all those Dr Moreau stories are true. I also understand that Val Kilmer started copying Brando, though whether that extended to the below the belt nudity I'm not sure

'Dust Devil' is second only to 'Seven' as the best horror film of the 1990s imho.

'Hardware' was an entertaining sci-fi/horror B-movie of the type people like Neil Marshall & Christopher Smith excel at these days.

I've never seen the definitive, Charles Laughton, version of Moreau - 'Island Of Lost Souls' (1932) and wonder why that is? Never shown on telly or released on DVD to my knowledge despite its legendary status.

Lord P and I were fortunate enough to see a borrowed bootleg of Island of Lost Souls recently and I'm also baffled as to why it's never been released. Why haven't Criterion or Anchor Bay got hold of it?

For that matter, why is the fantastic Murders in the Zoo (1933) languishing in a box set of obscure Universal horror films ("Mad Doctors & Monsters") and not out there on its own?
