We watched this odd little Edward Woodward film last night - a very low budget (financed by the British Coal Board, according to Jane Merrow) exercise in foreboding with a great opening scene:

Lord P had never even heard of it, so I'm curious if anyone else here has.

Here's the IMDb summary:

A schoolgirl takes a shortcut through some woods and is seized by an unseen malevolent force. She is never seen again and the authorities erect an iron fence around the woods to prevent a recurrence. Three years later, another schoolgirl regularly visits the fence and speaks with something that is invisible. The malevolent force seems to affect her family, first in dreams and later in more concrete ways.

I HAVE heard of this... it's tickling a long-forgotten memory... something key about Edward Woodward driving a car, right?... yes, a memory of watching this on American TV long ago... if I'm thinking of the right one....

It sounds fabulous but was it?

Always loved Edward Woodward as an actor. I wonder has the complete 'Callan' ever been released on DVD?

Stevie - all that survives has been, so far as I'm aware. I'm currently half way through "Callan - The Monochrome Years":-

...and there's also "Callan - The Colour Years":-

Yes, it does sound fabulous, doesn't it? Alas, it wasn't great. A nice spooky little film and very atmospheric but not really a classic. Woodward's great, of course, and the opening is fantastic, but the film doesn't stay at that level.

Thanks for the info, Mick. Anything I've ever seen of the series was pure quality British TV at its finest with Woodward mesmerising, and not a little scary, in the role. The film version was great too! Sorely tempted to get those sets...

I must admit I don't remember this one.

Mind you, the resolution to that opening scene was the mutts nuts!
