I've fallen into this trap before so I'm looking to be dissuaded. I have the soundtrack to the US remake of The Ring Two, which I found in a secondhand bookshop for a couple of dollars the last time I was in the States and thought what the hell. Hans Zimmer - it won't suck. I loved Ringu but thought the Hollywood version was, predictably, lame. Naomi Watts is excellent, of course, and I did like the bit with the horses. But overall it was a waste. So I never saw the sequel - either Japanese or American. But the SOUNDTRACK to Hollywood Ring Two... is positively sublime. It's one of my favourites to write to. I know there are loads of truly awful films that have gorgeous scores (the original House on Sorority Row springs to mind) and I'm assuming this is one of them. So please - has anyone seen it? Is it worth seeing? Or should I just be content with the film the music conjures in my head? (I've just answered my own question there, haven't I?) |

Kate, I have to admit I really liked the US remake of the first Ring. But also liked both the originals very much. I didn't care though for the American sequel at all. The plot just didn't work and it wasn't as visually striking. I loved the minimalism of the first original ring films, but enjoyed Verbinsky's big screen version a great deal as well... |

There were some really weird plot changes, but it was ages ago since I saw it, but I remember the original sequel working better...you should check it out though- maybe you will enjoy it! |

I didn't think much of The Ring Two, Kate. I wanted to like it, but it was a bit clunky, despite a few interesting scenes. I was quite hopeful about it originally, as it was directed by Hideo Nakata, director of the original Ring and also the magnificent Dark Water, but it really wasn't up to the standard of his earlier work. I would rent it first, personally. The Japanese sequel is definitely worth watching, though (I expect you've seen it already). |

Well, I'll definitely watch the original Ring Two and if it doesn't grab me I won't bother with the remake, Nakata or no Nakata. |

I have seen both, but I remember next to nothing about them so I suspect they were a bit bleugh. I too enjoyed Dark Water (the J-horror original). Especially the grumpy concierge. He was great Mark S. |

I thought the remake of The Ring was excellent, but not the sequel. That was very poor indeed. |

That guy (the grumpy concierge) pops up in so many Japanese horror films, I've lost count of them! I last noticed him in Juon... I think. |

Maybe he's a J-horror good luck charm, a Japanese Dick Miller. |
