I'm not on the committee but like thinking of ideas for Fantasycon. Has anyone got any suggestions for panels that we could pass on to Guy? |

It's not an idea per se, but at one point I remember the BFS was looking at increasing the emphasis on film rather than solely the written word. I'd love to see a panel or two on genre film - and I guess genre TV would be interesting too. I haven't got anything specific in mind though. |

Caroline; don't you dare turn FCon into another Dr Who convention! By the way - are you going this year? We looked out for you at Brighton... |

Ha! No, Mick, I wasn't actually thinking of going that far - but a little Doctor Who would be nice, don't you think? I didn't manage to get to Brighton due to health problems, but I've been steadily improving since so I'm hopeful I'll manage Nottingham by September. I'm already booked (cheap pre-registration). Pulling all the stops out to get there. |

Another suggestion I've had recently is ... 'Does horror fiction come from the real world or the imagination?' A good one. 10 weeks to go to Fantasycon. http://www.britishfantasysociety.org/index.php/fantasycon And the dedicated site... http://sites.google.com/site/fantasycon2010/ |

Here's a suggestion. Recent Fantasycons have had excellent panels dedicated to great weird fiction writers: Machen, Hodgson, Derleth. Last year's Derleth panel created an opportunity to discuss the Arkham House legacy as well as Derleth's own work. This time, why don't we focus on Robert E. Howard, using the Solomon Kane film as a trigger for a discussion of the Weird Tales legacy of weird-heroic fantasy and its continued importance. It was largely down to Howard's influence that the BFS called itself the British Fantasy Society, on the understanding that fantasy and horror were essentially the same genre. Howard made no distinction between the two, placing the grimmest of weird scenarios in places and historical eras that (as far as we know) never existed. There's far more to REH than Conan, and his vision still burns brightly within the genre. Let's have a late-night panel to raise a flagon to his memory. |

Good idea! I know that there is more than Conan to Robert E. Howard. We have many who know his work well...yourself, Stephen Jones, Ramsey.... |

Guy is enthusiastic about Joel's suggestion and will be looking into the possibilites of it all soon. I've mentioned the interest on it from this thread and I've said that you want to join in, too Jonathan! |

If you want a genre film panel, I'm sure JLP would love to host one on Spanish Zombie Films of the 1970s. A couple of people might come. Including me, who'd have no choice. |
