Guess it depends on warranty available - no real reason why not, if you can find a laptop that suits at a good price. |

Depends what it's been refurbished with. If it's been refurbished into a stylish chair for an infant it might be worth it if you have an infant in the house. |

Gary, I bought my Toshiba Tecra about 5 years ago on eBay. It had been refurbished and had the OS reinstalled and I've never had any trouble with it. It was certainly cheaper than a new one! |

New laptops start really cheap (except if, like me, you prefer a Mac), and you'll likely have fewer headaches... Check here, for example: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/laptops_great_deals?c=u k&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn The £499 one work be snappy for the next few years. With older laptops you may find that for example windows 7 may not work that well, and at one point a new version of your favourite browser won't work well on your old laptop, video clips may begin to stutter, etc, etc |

I bought a refurb Mac Powerbook about five years ago and it gave me sterling service until I stepped on it. As Weber said, a decent laptop (Acer, Asus etc) can be bought new for £300-400 quid (my current one is from Tesco.com). If just want it for word-processing email and surfing then a recent refurb is fine. If you buy one from a reputable source (they should offer some sort of warranty from 3-12 months as proof of their bona fides). It might be worthwhile getting someone to check under the bonnet to make sure you're getting all the promised RAM/Processors/HD space. With places like EBAY it's always a case of Caveat Emptor. |
