As on the net, I read old "news" (year 2006)about a collection by Eddy C. Bertin being in preparation from whom I know not. Of course it was aborted.
I'm still vainly hoping to see it published some day, in that Eddy is one of my favourite authors albeit a few tales have ever seen the light of an English translation. Or is he writing in English?
I deem the best candidate to consider printing such a collection would be Peter Crowther through his PS Publishing.
Of course, I would have to ask him whether there is anything of the sort in PS's future publishing plans but I'm sure there is nothing on the horizon.
Almost eveybody's work is being collected. Missing Eddy C. Bertin's would be a wound to any serious epicure of Horror.
Luckily enough he's not entirely forgotten, his tales do appear here and there every now and then but I suppose there is much to be read from his main body of work yet.
Well, I can live without...

I like Eddy's stuff. The Whispering Horror from Pan 9 is one of my all-time favourite horror stories. I've also come across his work in a number of anthologies of Lovecraftian stories & I would certainly buy a collection of his work

Ooohh yes, that's a good one - I've just read it. Very European punctuation, so it doesn't look like English is his first language. Which means there may be loads of stuff that's never been translated. I'd definitely read more too!

I agree, John, 'The Whispering Horror' is perhaps the most truly frightening vampire short story I have read, damned original too!

Bertin's Die Achtjahrliche Gott has to my knowledge never been translated in full. As he translates his own work it's surprising that hasn't appeared in English as a book. Bertin is a very fine weird fiction writer, kind of like a punk Basil Copper. Anything he writes should be snapped up on sight.

I have read plenty of Eddy C Bertin stories in the past; I think I have all his weird stories and SF stories which were all originally written in dutch.
That's a lot more than what he translated to English.
He moved towards Young Adult books, if I am correct.
2-3 years ago he published a new story in Cemetary Dance (or was it Weird Tales ?). It was nasty, proving that he hadn't lost the knack.
I never met him, unfortunately.

Bertin is still alive as far as I know, and only 65 or 66 years old. Let's hope for lots more work from him.

I'll be reprinting Eddy's THE WHISPERING HORROR in FOREVER BACK FROM THE DEAD in late 2011.

Johnny, is that other Pan book still available? And are there still no plans to bring these out in paperback? They'd sell shedfuls imo.

If you want a free PDF, send me an email to panbookofhorrorstories@gmail.com

As to what's happening with the Pans - if the 1959 re-issue sells, then it's good news. If it doesn't sell, well I gave it my best shot.

Is it the reissue of Pan #1 which you're launching at FCon or is it another one of your own, Johnny?

Stevie - if it's Johnny's "Back From The Dead" you mean, and you haven't read it yet, you're in for a treat.

It's the Pan 1 that I'm helping to launch Caroline, has a wee introduction in it by myself. I'll do anything short of poledancing and murder to sell copies of the book!

Yes, "The Whispering Horror" has that certain ingredient which makes it an unforgettable story. The fact that we're left in the cold as to the exact nature of the creature in the cellar constitutes much of the story's appeal.

I visited Eddy several times in the early nineties. His library is nothing short of Ackermanesque!

>>I'll do anything short of poledancing and murder to sell copies of the book!<<

Pity. I wouldn't mind seeing you poledancing to sell it!

I'll be buying a copy anyway - that's one I don't have. I'm sure I used to have it many years ago, but somehow all my old Pans disappeared at some point. I've managed to find a few again, and acquire some of the later ones which I'd not read before, but I'm still missing several of the old ones I first grew up with.

Johnny, thanks very much! That looks mouth-wateringly good!!

You realise I'll spend most of my day in work tomorrow printing that out and giving it a nice binding, so I can read it properly... you're a pal.

I remember liking Eddy's "Like Two White Spiders" published in "Year Best Horror n.3"(1973), Richard Davis ed.(not K.E.Wagner yet), from DAW. It was stupid of me giving the book away to some bloke, I still didn't know Horror would become my main cultural venue beside Psychology.
I'm still eating my elbows for it.

I'm trying to write a complete bibliography of the works by Eddy C. Bertin.
I'm ready with his works in English.
