...but I actually heard this on Radio Merseyside just now, and you'll be able to find it at about 13.56 on today's output if you don't believe me. A local cemetery has been vandalised, and a listener emails to say "The police must leave no stone unturned to find the culprit."

A very Lovecraftian turn of events. The Case of Charles Dexter Ward comes to mind: "For racked though [Willett] was with horror, his sense of grim purpose was still uppermost; and he was firmly determined to leave no stone unturned in his search for the hideous facts behind Charles Ward's bizarre madness." (ATMOM, p. 210). This is right after the good doctor has discovered what lurks on the bottom of one of the many pits in Curwen's cellar.

Nice one.

(That phrase is a bit limp, anyway. Surprised to see it in later Lovecraft, actually. [Although I do like Bernard Shaw's definition of the role of a critic - to leave no turn unstoned.])

A boat smuggling cannabis capsized near a bird sanctuary in Scotland yesterday - no tern was left unstoned...

Andrew Loog Oldham noted smugly in his diary in 1964: "Great weekend. Left no Stone unturned."

I think Old Rubber Lips might have been more up Britt Ekland's alley at the time. No offense, ladies.
