Has there ever been such a thing as a Scream Queen, title in Edo Van Belkom's novel apart? The only one I can recall being marvelous Barbara Steele...and her acting was more than screaming. Hammer Film starlets maybe, but never really Queens. No, Ingrid Pitt is just another good one, and Barbara Shelley too, albeit more a very accomplished actress than a female screamer! I can't remember anybody else as a Scream Queen, is it more legend than reality? Or does the term refers to female players dubbing screaming movie characters? | ||

On further thought, great Susan Strasberg did an excellent screaming job in "Taste of Fear" but that was required of the movie script, she was not being type-cast. I remember Gillo Pontecorvo' "Kapò" as her battle-horse of a movie. I was greatly moved by her playing the title role. | ||
