Rhys - I was very interested in reading about Norman Spinrad's 'The Iron Dream.' Must be honest and say I'd never heard of the author or the book until today. But now my appetite has been amply whetted. | ||

Hello Frank... Spinrad wrote one of the best short stories ever (in my view). It's called 'No Direction Home' and is a masterpiece of SF existential horror, but whether trad horror bods will like it or not is a different question. Nothing horrific happens in it, but the ultimate theme of the story is that life truly is meaningless and empty... He also wrote a cracking novel called Bug Jack Barron that got Mike Moorcock's New Worlds magazine banned in Britain in the late '60s! | ||

Rhys - I'm not a trad horror bod, I'm a 'if it's quality', I'll read it. I've even been known to waste my time reading rubbish, just to contradict myself. Anyway, the more I read about Spinrad, the more I find myself drawn to the man. SF existential horror...intriguing indeed. Many thanks, mate, for the inadvertent recommendation. (Yes, I read about the Bug Jack Barron novel earlier today, after reading your post). |
