Can't believe nobody wants to look at pictures of creatures so far below the surface of the ocean that they've gone and grown elbows just because nobody's looking. |

Frank, those of us based in the UK will soon have the opportunity to meet such creatures at Fantasycon. Every convention bar has them. |

I can honestly say that the giant squid was my nightmare creature as a small child. Probably owing to two movies - REAP THE WILD WIND and 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. For years, I couldn't think of anything more frightening that I might genuinely encounter in the real world. But, as Joel says, Fantasycon came along and changed that pretty smartly. Now I know that there are lots more frightening creatures, and all much closer to home (i.e. in Nottingham). |

What makes squids really scary is that underneath that soft, flabby exterior is a horny parrot-like beak the size of a man-trap that once it has a grip never lets go until the prey has been drunk dry. Couple that with needle-sharp teeth inside each and every sucker on each and every tentacle, eyeballs the size of a football and fucking intelligence comparable to that of an octopus like Paul(!!), and you got one beastie you don't want to run into in your swimming trunks! I love 'em!! |

On a lighter note... (forgive the shameless, but still squid-related, pluggage) http://www.darksmile.co.uk/Mp3/MapandSteads/4%20-%20Squid%20in%20the%20sink.mp3 At least I've spared you the link to the sequel, 'Map and Steads and the Calamari Ring'... |
