That was the title of the panel held at the 36th World Science Fiction Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. Panellists included Professor Dirk W. Mosig, Professor Donald R. Burleson, J. Vernon Shea, Fritz Leiber, Jr., and S.T. Joshi. Wish you'd been there? Well, here's a link to a recording of the panel!

At last, the stars are right.

Thanks for the files, Steve. If everyone will excuse me for the next week, I'll just burn a few CDs for personal use...

It's a convention in your own front room! Be sure to dress appropriately to the late 1970s, and pick a drunken fight with yourself over the relative merits of Fafhrd and Conan.

Note how young S.T. Joshi is in the photo – about 19 at that time I think, and already a veteran of Lovecraft scholarship.

Whatever happened to Marc Michaud and Necronomicon Press? I know his wife Susan died a couple years ago, but that is all.

Huibert, I'm sad to hear that. I think Nercronomicon Press is now definitely wound up, but STJ and friends have created a new focus for Lovecraft studies in the form of Hippocampus Press.

Hubert, sorry.

Note to self: don't drink and post. No matter how uncontroversial the topic, your slurred typing will betray your condition.

I'm still in touch with ST, but for some reason NP was never mentioned. A pity it folded, for a while there they were possibly the strongest outfit in the field, winning awards etc. I once visited Marc and Susan and got treated to a family dinner, the works. Really friendly people. Their children used to send me birthday cards.

Joel: never mind, I had a couple myself yesterday. (Now why does that sound so amusing?)

I think that if Lovecraft had lived into the 1960s he would have joined the psychedelic pop group H.P. Lovecraft as an adviser.

Because you've been hanging around Joel with his penchant for double entendres and dodgy puns for too long, Hubert. He's rubbing off on you.
