I'm a little bit happy today.

As one or two of you already know, I recently signed a three-book deal with those lovely people at Solaris Books (http://www.solarisbooks.com/).

The novels are set in a place called the Concrete Grove, and artist Vincent Chong is doing the cover work for all three.

I've put the first two covers on my blog, and I'm sure you'll agree that they're stunning:

Like the first one, but not so sure about the second. Never a fan of pictures of people on book covers. Not pictures where you can see the faces anyway. Cool stuff otherwise, Zed matey.

The first one is particularly awesome.

You must, and should, be well chuffed.

Brilliant, Gary, love the first cover especially (as for the second, I like the detail with the mouths but share Mr Lynch's misgivings). Bloody terrific though, can't wait to read them!

Thanks for your support, people.

I love both of these, but I prefer the second - it's original and quirky, and has a lot of details relating to the story arc (the hummingbirds, "Captain Clickety" written on the wall, the rotting towerblock in the background).

As an aside, I've just been asked to interview Vinny for the souvenior programme at World Horror 2011, so if there are any burning questions anyone has for the man, now's the time to ask...

As an aside, and demonstrating the power of, uh, what I'm not entirely sure, but whenever I read the name Vincent Chong I nearly always misread it as Viet Cong. I is an asshole.

Beautiful work Gary and Vincent! The first reminds me of La Horde, which Lord P is sure you'll love and I especially like the attacking hummingbirds and cryptic graffiti in the second. Both tease and intrigue me about the story, so they're doing their job!

I kinda agree with Mark, the first one is really alluring, but the second one... mmm. Still not bad, but it doesn't really matter, because if someone's read the first and is hooked....

I think both covers are fantastic.

Zed, ask Vinny how come, when he and I started doing art on Corel Draw in 2003, he can do this and I'm still scribbling with crayons cos miss won't let me have a paintbox on account of the mess I make.

Coral Draw! Blimey, that's a blast from the past.

Are these Hummingbirds from the "Hungry Hearts" corporation?

Thank you, sir.

Mark - conceptually, yes. I've been dropping hints in my fiction about hummingbirds for years. They're evil.

Thanks, Joel. I'm currently killing myself writing the first book, so let's hope I can deliver on the promise of those covers. If I don't, you can rest assured that I will have at least lost my mind trying.

I'm intrigued with the roots wrapping themselves round the tower block - what it all means???? I love he muted colours, very atmospheric. Hmmm, I sounded like a creative writing teacher then...
