Well, it's my birthday. The big ship has sailed up the alley alley oh and I am 40.

I am not entirely sure how this has happened but it has. I did wake this morning with a vague notion about string theory and sentience that would suggest the Many Worlds Interpretation of Hugh Everett (fictionalised 20-odd years before he came up with it in Olaf Stapledon's Star Maker) is a good candidate for the basis of a theory of everything, because the human mind may well be dependent on quantum interferance to function (see the latest developments on quantum computers and imagine it on our biochemical brains and you'll see what I'm getting at), but I suspect someone else has already worked that out.

Bit early for birthday cake, though.

Mark, you're suppposed to wake up on your fourtieth vowing never to touch the stuff ever again. This is indeed a novel approach.

Still, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, old sport! Hope you have a good day!

I think someone else here mentioned the old saw about the age of 40: "The old age of youth, and the youth of old age." So I'll repeat it.

Happy Birthday, Mark!

Cheers, folks!

Actually, so far my 40th is a helluva lot better than my 20th. I'm not paralysed down half my body for a start. I reckon on this evidence by my 60th I should be one fit and healthy guy!

Thinking about it as well, I felt most...content with an age...at 34.

Just out of interest... how many of us are actually under 40 now? We might need to drum up some support among the yoof of today, to ensure the guvnor's legacy is passed on to the next generation...

Happy Birthday, Mark!

I spent 4 solid days partying when I turned 40, from Thu-Sun, and loved every single moment of it. Since then it's like I've been going through a second adolescence, without the angst.

Lord knows what'll happen in 2015 when I turn 50!!

I think that just about sums it up for me too. Folks who know me keep saying I must be getting younger - mentally, if not physically.

I think most of us grew up with Ramsey's books, when horror fiction was having its day. I'm getting nostalgic.
