I've read more novels and short stories by Ramsey Campbell than any other author by far. Yet there are still several I have yet to read. I have picked up 4 of his to chose between. They are: THE INFLUENCE THE HUNGRY MOON LONG LOST and THE OVERNIGHT My favorite novels of his so far are: 1. INCARNATE 2. ANCIENT IMAGES 3. THE GRIN OF THE DARK 4. MIDNIGHT SUN 5. THE DARKEST PART OF THE WOODS I will eventually read them all but I am a notoriuosly slow reader, so it will take me some time. With that being said, does anyone have a suggestion on which I should sart with? |

I would recommend "The Overnight." Hope everyone is well. Just finished final edits on "Dragon's Ark" way late, thank to the copyeditor--and no, it wasn't me. Am "blogging" (God, I hate that word; it's so . . . alimentary)on a daily basis at the Red Room and will stop by later with links. |

The Hungry Moon. This isn't going to help at all, is it? |

Haven't read 'The Overnight' yet but of the other three I'd rank them: 1. The Long Lost - his most original and hard to classify that I've read so far, part supernatural horror/part soap opera, a wickedly funny & extremely disturbing masterpiece imo. 2. The Influence - one of his best structured narratives and most frightening supernatural horror tales imo, a real classic. 3. The Hungry Moon - the least satisfying and most disjointed of those I've read but you still have to read it, marks a kind of "let's try anything" transition from the raw intensity of his early works to the sophistication and use of dark humour that came after, and the book does have a certain nightmarish quality all its own. |

Thanks to all for offering suggestions. Based off what Stevie wrote, it sounds like The Influence may be in the lead because I do like a high supernatural element to my horror. On the good side, I can't possibly go wrong with anything written by Ramsey. |

Not that we're attempting to influence you. Think about it overnight. But if you think about it too long, lost time cannot be made up. |

That was one trick too many, alas. And I need my breakfast. I might have something French. I'm a faim-ished lune-y. |

9am. No food in fridge. Decide to show my solidarity with the unloved, the hung over and the hungry. Moon passers-by from window of my grimy flat. Nobody takes any notice. |
