Last week I interviewed the great Bruce Sterling for the Italian newspaper, La Stampa. That interview is available online here:
http://www.lastampa.it/redazione/cmsSezioni/cultura/201009articoli/58959girata.a sp

But it's also available in English, and in fact the English version is longer, with more questions. Here it is:

Obviously, if you don't like Bruce Sterling there's not much point reading it, but he is an extremely engaging, erudite and intelligent fellah and this comes over strongly in his answers! It was a privilege for me to interview him, I can tell you!

Mate, excellent questions, with some very insightful answers. I've heard of the man, but never read a single thing by him. But that Ellison was his mentor is enough to make him a definite must. Cheers.

BTW: Do you speak Italian?

Ah yes, Harlan Ellison! What a masterful writer!

It has been more than 20 years since I read 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' but it's still fresh in my mind. One of the best (and most disturbing) stories ever conceived!

Believe it or not, I only read 'The Whimper of Whipped Dogs' recently. I've read a lot of his work, but not that beauty.

Bruce Sterling is a visionary.

The (recommended) podcast magazine "Starship Sofa" brought his EXCELLENT story "The Kiosk" in their issue 116.

You can listen to it (or download it for your ipod) here:

It's wonderful. The narration of this audio version is also really well done.

The story is really remarkable. It takes a long time before you get a feel where it is heading. The implications offer good food for thought.

(and by the way, there are several other great Starship Sofa episodes for you to enjoy)
