...hard to believe, I know. If you want proof, I have a guest blog up here today:

Warning: contains rude words. But nothing about the Pope, which is unusual for me these days.

Cheers!

More power to you, Simon!

And did you see what the Pope wrote about you on his blog at www.vaticando.it?

It's been fun reading the headlines of the Daily Mail this week. How suddenly left wing of them to be objecting to benefit cuts!

With all due respect Tony, that article from the observer is the biggest pile of crap ever.

The writer seems to believe that jade actually wrote those "autobiographies". If they contained coherent prose there's not a chance of that.

the only bit of that celeb BB i saw was 10 minutes of Jade screaming unforgivable racist abuse at Shilpa. It wasn't a couple of sentences which could possibly have been misconstrued as the article says. It was Jade at her full bigoted screaming worst. Every other sentence she screamed at Shilpa contained some type of racial epthet, but apparently, she was just trying to explain that Shilpa didn't know what the Indian slums were like?

Jades mother appeared on one of the reality shows with Jade... in the few snippets I saw at my sister's house (she watches all that shit unfortunately) I never saw any hint of this drug addled evil cow we're expected to believe in.

Jade was a vile woman and to believe that is not snobbish.

Also there is a huge difference between a man writing about his cancer in the Times and the sick spectacle of the three ring media circus that the millionaire Jade Goody had around her apparently to make sure the kids would be looked after. Wendy Richard died of cancer around the same time. She had a quiet dignified death away from the cameras. There was no reason or excuse for the level of publicity around every tiny bit of Jade's treatment.

Well said Simon by the way.

I know people who are proud that they were called the Vicky Pollards of their schools. People actually aspire to be that fucking ignorant.

Exquisite. Maybe you could parse the sentence you used previously in which you gloated about the worms eating through Jade Goody's body.

Actually, would Ignorant be an abstract noun (or an adjectival noun)rather than an adjective in that earlier post?

In any case, fucking was still nothing but an expletive.

People aspire to ignorance? Hmm, I suspect it's more the case they're ignorant of the fact that's what some people would call aspiring to that sort of thing is.

That last sentence hurt my head reading it back. Perhaps I should've thrown more carnal verbs in there.

I do think Tull aboard the small plane, carrying his load of Untitleds, and the pilot crapping himself is the funniest scene in The Information - and possibly in all of Amis's work I've read. Underrated book.

I love the bit where Tull goes to take his place in the reader's auditorium to a thunderous round of applause: from next door.

I love most of all Keith Talent's increasingly hot curries. The bit where smoke's coming out of every part of his head and he turns to the waiter and says, "Forgive me for asking, but didn't I ask for the hot one?"

Or the dysfunctional horse John Self's dad once bet on: "It fucking munched its way through the final fence."

A comic genius.
