It's my birthday today and I have been properly spoilt by Lady P, who has bought me a silver headed cane (so if I end up strolling the Welsh moors I can bash in the head of any werewolf that comes my way, saving him from having to appear in increasingly rubbish sequels where he has to share screen time with other Universdal monsters) and the special edition of a movie that has special romantic meaning for us - Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead. It's been a lovely day & I feel a very, very lucky chap and that's probably quite enough from me about all of that. |

Happy birthday, John! Whatever lovely associations City of the Living Dead has for you, I hope they compensate for the film being ten thousand fathoms below Fulci's usual standard. |

Happy birthday, Lord P! Does the silver headed cane have a hollow centre concealing a silver-tipped sword? |

Or a vial of restorative brandy? You do realize that the anniversary of Vincent Price's passing is the 25th of October, don't you? How considerate of him to cling to life for a few hours so that the two of you can have your own days without over-shadowing the other. |

It was a day of anthology films. Vault of Horror in the morning, then lunch at our favourite restaurant in Bristol (with a side jaunt to Forbidden Planet, where we got the Art of Hammer book), then back home for Tales from the Crypt (the Peter Cushing segment made me cry) and finally Torture Garden. Very great and very grim! |

Kate - I first saw TALES FROM THE CRYPT at the cinema when I was a lad and found the Peter Cushing segment upsetting - he was such a convincing kindly old gent. |

Belated happy birthday, John! My one complaint with the Peter Cushing TALES FROM THE CRYPT segment: I'd heard he won some award for best make-up in that role at the time... and yet you see so very and maddeningly little of him in the film as undead, from what I remember..... |
