We've just got back from seeing this, that rarest of events - a modern remake of a subtitled film that really isn't bad at all!!!

I won't say much else except that this adheres closely to the original, has some stylish touches of its own and the story and characters are just as sensitively portrayed as in Let the Right One In

Oh, and at the start it says this:

A Hammer Films Production

I couldn't agree more, John.

I thought 'Let Me In' was excellent but it still pales beside the original and that frustrates me. Hopefully Hammer's next production will be something original but at least this gets them off to a quality start. Have you any idea what became of 'The Wake Wood'? I had heard it was completed but after that not a whisper... weird.

I absolutely loved this film. I saw it last night with my new woman and we both had a jolly good time. Those people who say it's a shot for shot retread are lying. This sticks closer to the book than the original in some places but does deviate in others - but good deviations - the car crash as seen from the inside of the car was stunningly well done. I think it's up in my to 5 car crashes in film easily.

SPOILER - my least favourite deviation from the original was that the suicide aspect of virginia's death was removed. In the original she doesn't want to become what she's turning into and asks the nurse to open the curtains. In this one, while she's feeding on her own arm, the nurse opens them. Having said that, the bursting into flames was done better in this than in the first film.

I recommend this highly.

'Let Me In' is extremely well done but I'm afraid it still pales beside the original. As I said in my review on the 'Let The Right One In' thread there are a few differences but at least 90% of the film is a shot-for-shot identical retread. You should have heard the rant Mark Kermode launched into on Sat night when 'Let Me In' was mentioned lol. His is an overreaction imo but the redundancy point is still valid and unavoidable.

"Those people who say it's a shot for shot retread are lying."

Surely mistaken at worst, if they are.

It's in no way 90% shot for shot. there are scenes which are recreated in a very similar fashion - but there are differences. i don't recall the boy being dragged out of the changing room and thrown back in the pool in the original. From that point on it's very similar admittedly but it's one of the big set-pieces in the book and couldn't be touched much.

The set piece of Virginia exploding was entirely different in Let Me In than LTROI. the capture of the Hakan character was also entirely different.

I can understand the redundancy argument, but this film brought out different aspects of the book for me that the original didn't.

The patheticness of the vampire came across much more in Let Me In IMO and the horror of young Owen's (Oscar's) final fate was liekwise more pronounced. He was doomed to be the new Hakan until the day that he too would be captured or killed.

I enjoyed this one as much (possibly more - but I'm not sure if that was down to my companion) than the original.

Wilfully exaggerating - is that better?

Let's put it this way, Weber, I plan to add 'Let The Right One In' to my DVD collection but see no point in also owning 'Let Me In' - as undeniably fine a movie as it is.

I see (in the latest "Entertainment Weekly") that Stephen King voted this remake the #1 best film (of all genres) of the year, and then the best horror film of the decade. That's the very best horror film (including the original?) from 2000-2010, I guess, iSKho... fwiw....

His head's cut imho.

It's great to be able to say that about one of your heroes lol.
