There's a preview of Paxman's interview with Christopher Hitchens on tonight. Hitchens is dying of cancer. The full interview goes out on Monday, BBC2, 7.30pm.

Hitchens is also debating Tony Blair (alas, only to be shown on pay-per-view) on the good and/or ill of Faith soon.

Hitchens was responsible for a lot of Martin Amis-isms apparently, such as "rug re-rhink".

Prince of trivia, me.

Will catch this interview, for sure. Hitchens is certainly an interesting guy.

Hitchens talks about his 'man-love' for Amis in his autobiography.

Hitchens's God Is Not Great is a good read, occassionally spoiled by him being slightly snide here and there (for instance, at Karen Armstrong for a wonkily conceived sentence in her God book) in ways that do his otherwise perfectly cogent arguments no good...

I also think that snideness has little place in an argument. I've read some otherwise perfectly well argued stuff which includes childish lines like, "If [our opponent] could actually read, he would realise that . . . "

Cheap shots.

It's amazing how different Peter & christopher Hitchens are in outlook.

I must admit, I find the near crazed idealism of Peter Hitchens fascinating, kind of how you are drawn to look at a car crash.

Agreed, GC Dubbya. He seems an odd creature, swimming in different waters from the fish in the same pond as him.

Mind you, brothers... I have a brother. We're chalk and cheese, but have finally come to an unspoken means of getting on. Acceptance. And it's good. I doubt the Hitchens boys will arrive at such a place, though whose fault that will be, I don't know.
