This is one of the breakthroughs I've been waiting for Caroline! The credibility door is now wide open to the high probability of life existing elsewhere in the solar system, nevermind the galaxy. This should convince scientists, and those with the dosh, to pour more time and funds into the search for extraterrestrial life. Mars, Europa (a moon of Jupiter) & Titan (a moon of Saturn) are the three strongest contenders. My money is still on Mars. I only hope I live long enough to see the discovery made! | ||

Aren't most of our own oceans as yet unexplored? I thought I read somewhere that the unexplored spaces between the ocean bottoms and the sea surface was greater than all the land-masses on Earth, or something to that effect. Every now and then, some ghastly monster or other comes to light (literally) from down below. We should be exploring our own deep sea bottoms, to find whatever "weird life" lurks there unknown... heck, it's closer than Mars!... | ||

I must admit I get excited when ever there's a discovery of "new life", and Craig is right that our oceans are probably teeming full of stuff we've no idea about. I think what excites me most is that it proves my feelings all along - that, just because we (ie. humans) don't currently know about it or can't explain it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. In my opinion, we have a very blinkered view of the world (and the universe). New discoveries like this blow our assumptions to shreds. I like that! | ||

Yeah, just think of the infinitude of alien lifeforms in our universe alone that we will never become aware of in the lifetime of our species. And that's only the "physical lifeforms"! | ||
