Apologies in advance for pimping this here, but this morning I'm a very happy horror writer...

Today's issue of The Guardian has given my novel Pretty Little Dead Things a stellar review. You can see it in full here:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jan/08/pretty-little-dead-things-review?INT CMP=SRCH

Great pull-quote:

"Not so much hard-boiled as hard-nuked, this novel puts McMahon firmly in the front ranks of the new wave of British horror."

Cheers, mate, Given the context (mainstream syndicated newspaper) it's probably the best - and most useful, according to my agent - review I've ever had. I'm actually rather gobsmacked.

Anyway...I'm off to clean the bog now. Reality bites.

That's good news, indeed. Mind, they're a bunch of lefties at the Guardian... Surprised you'd have anything to do with em! ;-)

Excellent. Very pleased for you fella.

Whenever anybody mentions the book, I get an immediate and spooky vision of Usher's landing. And I must confess to keeping my eye out for faceless hoodies when in town at night.

Well done, Zed!

Sorry to report the Birmingham Waterstone's still does not have the book in stock. (Unless they maybe put it in the paranormal romance section, based on its title.)

Actually, that may explain why I've not seen it either. Checked both Waterstones in Huddersfield, both in Canterbury, one in Ashford and one in Leeds. No sign of the book. Never thought to check the Paranormal Romance section.

Incidentally, Hungry Hearts is being heavily promoted in Ashford and Canterbury in a 3 for 2 offer, along with a bunch of other zombie novels (including Mr Finch's) and anthologies.

Thanks, folks. Much appreciated.

Joel, some bookshops are putting it in the crime section.

Mark, Leeds Waterstones certainly had copies when I was in there a few weeks ago - maybe they sold 'em.

I'm glad we're out of the cup, mate - it means we can concentrate on getting into Europe.

Thanks again, folks. Your kind words mean a lot.

Getting into Europe? It's easy. They could use Jet.com. But tell them not to use Teeside Airport. It's rubbish.

Congratulations, sir! I'll still never own a Kindle though lol.

Really enjoying 'Rain Dogs', though my reading, and online activity, has been seriously curtailed by recent events!
